I think he does get it. He makes the point that Christianity is not a political agenda, it’s a matter of faith. It’s certainly not about apocalyptic cults masquerading as churches, hypocrites who make millions from donations while having a masseuse on the side, or Holy Roller types who care more about condemming others while claiming that only those who think and believe the way they do are going to get special treatment from the man upstairs.

Christianity is about faith but the only issues he raises are with political agendas.
It's also not about a social agenda (which goes hand in hand with a political agenda). You're falling for the bait and switch.
