As I understand it, Masons believe that the rituals of masonry are handed down from the temple rights dating back to David and Solomon.

LDS believe that the temple rights practiced by masons became corrupted over thousands of years through apostasy. the “restitution of all things” that Joseph Smith restored included sacred temple worship. This is why there are minor similarities between Masonic rituals and LDS temple worship.
