Mitt Romney is riding high this week after his victory in "the first primary," which consists of raising cold, hard cash to compete: more than $20 million in the first quarter, $5 million more than his closest contender, Rudy "Lay off my wife!" Giuliani. John McCain came in a lackluster third with $12.5 million.
Romney's campaign benefited from two distinct donor networks, according to media accounts: Wall Street and Mormons. GOP front-runner Rudy, struggling with one of those weird media freak shows erupting around his wife, Judith (her alleged participation in future Cabinet meetings and former puppy killings), must be a little envious on both counts.
Why is it that all the Dem candidates are still married to their first spouse, while among the current crop of leading GOP contenders, the only guy with just one wife is the Mormon?
Truth is, I don't think this is just an accident. There's something about Mormons the rest of us ought to pay attention to: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do much better than almost any other faith group at sustaining a marriage culture -- and they do this while participating fully and successfully in modern life. Utah is above the national average in both household income and the proportion of adults who are college graduates.

Pretty incredible plagerized novel. Solomon Spaulding would be truly amazed!
Yes, I’m going to believe Jesus.
Thanks
Agreed. But, we’re all trying to be better people, I suppose.
Resty, the poster just a few posts before claimed to be so intelligent that MENSA was on the resume. I happen to be quite familiar with that organization. In that light, the deviousness of the bait and switch is not an accident. I will discuss and even debate in good faith, but when deviousness raises its ugly head I have no need to be so engaged ... devious is one of the most fundamental character aspects of satan, Resty. For reference, cunning is another. Take your caution where you can, Resty.
I also said that I rejected the Mormon religion in my youth. That was 30 years ago, that I rejected that religion.
No I don’t remember that particular story.
Why do you find it so hard to just supply the location of the passage?
I have spent SO much time over the years searching scriptures, you will never know, and not only Mormon ones.
Why would you attack me personally? I’ve tried (though it’s not easy) to stay polite.
To others on this thread, sevenbak, is making a prime example of what I was talking about when I referred to “tyranny over the minds of men”.
Everything that one could think about the LDS has shown up on FR between 2000 - 2004 on the FR Religion Forum!
There is nothing new that could be mention that has not been posted on FR-RF.
Soon the LDS got so tired of the endless contention many of us choose not to continue this because it was non productive.
If one forensically looks at Joe Smith’s earlier life (before the Moroni vision), then makes comparison to the rest of his life, a very interesting pattern emerges ... the earlier life was hallmarked by petty con work, but the later life is a mark of pure brilliance, creative, organizational, leadership brilliance. It will remain for you to decide from whence cometh such brilliance. My prayer for you my friends is that you do obtain a truthful answer during your lifetime. Peace be with you both
FYI, “;-)” This means tongue in cheek.
You made it perfectly clear that you were only researching in order to better know your enemy. Why would anyone assist you with that? You should know better.
The top surface of an altar.
Ok!:)
Romney’s Mormonism is the one thing that might reccommend the man to me. Mormons live family values that most of the rest of us talk about a lot. Unfortunately those values se em not to have informed his policies as Governor.
You’re taking my claim out of context, MHG. I was trying to highlight critical thinking skills for a specific purpose. I was not trying to tweak any possible insecurity on your part. If you took it as such, I apologize.
You’re writing a doctrinal book, for Pete’s sake! That’s WAY out of my league; I’m satisfied writing my silly little programs. I have utmost respect for scholars such as yourself - and it is the furthest thing from my mind to try to put myself at a higher intellectual level than you, because it’s clearly not the case. Last time I make the mistake of mentioning that organization on these forums...
Nevertheless, even my puny arguments seemed to drive you to labeling me as devious, and now comparing me to Satan himself. It couldn’t have been the strength of the arguments; surely one as studied as yourself would have been able to refute them where appropriate. Yet, you caved. It doesn’t bode well for somebody aspiring to produce intelligent discussions on theology to run and hide so easily when a little opposition (which was, believe me, the best I could muster) shows its face. Where would Christianity be if that were the norm amongst its intellectual elites?
Reread my post; my interactions are sincere. If you have such trouble dealing with me simply because I approach the issues from a different angle, then that’s not good news for your skills of persuasion.
I was perfectly happy to let it be; I do hope that we can return to a more civil form of discourse.
I really do wish you good luck on your book, whether you want my best wishes or not. Judging from the way you responded to me, you’re likely to need it.
I’m curious, from whence doth come such brilliance? In your opinion, of course?
Why make such an ambigous remark?
Liberty Rattler, after you described Mormons as tyrants and enmies etc.
Because to you if those who are passionate about their faith, that makes them a tyrant?
Maybe I am bless for I am sole person in my family that is LDS and my passion run deep!
I have yet to meet a tyrant in the Church but than I was not really looking!
I had spent 38 years of my life looking for so many things I read in the Bible that mainstream had dismissed as being no longer needed or dead!
I got a testimony of the Book of Mormon before I read it, after I prayed in the name of Jesus Christ!
It was the most joy I ever felt in my life and I recieved it by the Power of the Holy Ghost but than I desire to know and my prayers were answered!
"Youre writing a doctrinal book, for Petes sake!" No, helper, I'm writing a cosmology, a different cosmology, but a cosmology. If I were writing a doctrinal piece I wouldn't post any of it on a Mormonism discussion thread. I work hard at my research so that data is presented when needed to substantiate what I focus upon. Is that alien to your devious mind, being transparent? Of what final value is your great intellect if it serves only to play at human interaction without feeling? [Asimov, for reference, in light of MENSA.]
Woah-ho! You are a rarity on this thread!
As for his policies as governor... I’m not entirely convinced of Romney’s politics. Nevertheless, he was governor of MA, for heaven’s sake! I think he did pretty well with a bad situation, given his circumstances. He essentially stopped gay marriage, for example, for the remainder of his term, despite a radically activist court and extremely leftist legislature.
Governor of MA for a Republican can only be frustrating drudgery. I’d give him a gold star for his service in that capacity. Now, his mushiness on a few of his social policies... that’ got me in a bit of a wait-and-see mode.
Still, he beats both McCain and Giuliani hands down. If a real Reaganesque conservative doesn’t show up, I’m convinced he’s the best bet.
Ok petty con work would you care to elaberate and don’t tell me about a common cultural practiced among the folks in the area as money diggers!
I’m sorry, LR. I’ll reply privately.
I do envy converts. It would be quite an experience to undergo that sort of life-altering transition!
