The family of a Manchester United fan who was stabbed by Italian football fans in Rome have spoken of their shock at the attack.
Stephen Fitzsimons, 53, was knifed in the groin after he and three friends were ambushed by Roma supporters on their way to the match.
There was also trouble during the Champions League game itself - Man Utd fans clashing with riot police and 18 supporters taken to hospital.

Oh those Euro pacifists, to bad they cannot get that angery at people who want to behead them all?
The Roma fans are notorious.
As is the italian police. From yesterdays match:

Soccer “hooligans” are out of control. I cannot think of a single time (not to say that it has not happened) when NFL fans stormed the field slashing at each other over the results of a football game.
It doesn't happen at every Soccer game either.
I think the difference is in the passion. NFL is to Soccer as Wrestling is to Boxing.
MUFC sent out letters to all ticket holders warning them of areas to stay away from if they intended to go to the match. These were derided as “scare tactics and a PR stunt”. I’d be curious to learn if the victim was in a “non-recommended area”.
After watching that video, I’m for drafting every euro-weenie footie fan and euro “peace officer” and sending them to patrol the border between Iraq and Iran and the streets of Baghdad. Give them something to vent their obvious frustration at being a bunch of cowards who always need America to bail their arses out on.
The problem with generalising 450 million people is that you end up looking stupid.
While you are sitting in your comfy home, some “cowards” are dying for your, as well as my own, freedom.

Passion?!?
Why can’t they ever come up with that kind of passion in defending themselves against those who would subjugate them?
I think a better word is priorities. An NFL fan is more likely to prioritize defending his country instead of his team. It’s called seeing ‘the bigger picture’.
See above.
Where did I lump all 450 million euros footie fan catagory?
Before you go speaking for them you should have them take a vote on whether or not they want their troops supporting the WOT.
See my post #9.
What have the Italian riot police got to do with the WOT? Or with the rest of Europe for that matter?
I hate to break it to you but Europe is a continent not a country. What happens in one country is not related to the other.
For example:
Italy and the UK are separate countries that reside in a continent called Europe.
Canada and the USA are separate countries that reside in a continent called (North) America.
Japan and China are separate countries that reside in a continent called Asia.
No offence to any Brits who realize the fight we are in, but I haven’t read in the British press that the majority in Britain are behind Blair’s decisions.
Then again maybe the Brit msm is like ours, make up the news they want to hear. And I’ve always considered the Brits our second best supporters, right after the Aussies.
Not even in Philly.
You know what I mean? :P
What happened to the EU? I thought you all were for giving up your sovereignty and speaking with one voice.
If it makes you feel any better just remember the 4th of July is right around the corner, you guys get to celebrate getting rid of us again!
I almost excluded Raiders fans!
I think the key here is "thought". If your "thoughts" are different from reality fair enough - but it is still not reality.
You don't need to read in the press. Blair was re-elected after the Iraqi invasion. I think that says it all.
