Recent votes by Congressional Democrats demonstrate voters made a mistake by giving them control of Congress. Democrats (or is it Dumocrats?) want to unconstitutionally take over the president's power as commander-in-chief by foolishly imposing a deadline for withdrawing troops from Iraq.
A poker player who told the other players he would fold if they continued raising would lose because his opponents would only have to continue raising to win. Congressional "Dumocrats" are telling al-Qaida and other terrorist groups in Iraq that they only need to keep fighting a short time more and the U.S. will pull out and allow them to turn Iraq into another disaster like Darfur.
Sometimes in bridge, the cards of one player will be face up on the table so that the other players can see them. This player is appropriately called "the dummy." A nation that tells its adversaries what it plans to do in a combat zone is a "dummy."
When a sports team isn't performing up to the standards of the college or business that operates it, the college or business doesn't stop playing. Instead, the head coach is replaced.
President George W. Bush recently replaced "head coach" Donald Rumsfeld and the "assistant coach" responsible for operations in Iraq. The new "coaches" need time to implement more effective strategies or tactics.
Dealing with violence is like treating cancer. Some cancers are easy to treat, while others, like Tony Snow's, are very difficult to treat. The cancer that afflicts Iraq is the latter. It is fueled by hate.
Our troops may not be able to completely stop the violence, but they have prevented the massacres of entire villages that occurred in the Balkans and some areas of Africa as well as in Iraq under Saddam Hussein.
The Constitution assigns the president the exclusive power to control how military forces are used in combat. Congress is responsible for such matters as the condition of military bases.
If Congress had been doing it's job, it wouldn't have needed The Washington Post to tell it about the poor conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Congress should let the president run the war and concentrate on making sure the wounded are properly treated.
