Good Points of this Theory
- accords with most ppls. experience
- explains presentation failure
- "intuitive" - uniformized commercial product "seems" likely to be counterproductive
Bad Points of this Theory
- What to present? - most talks dull by nature, need something on screen to prevent sleep
- Sunk costs: businesses have paid for, heavily invested in PowerPoint approach already (institutional reluctance/inertia)
- anti-egalitarian/ PowerPoint as "levelling" technology: Far more people now required to give presentations than actually skilled at giving presentations. PowerPoint enabled this, should we discard?
Conclusions
- Use only pages full o'pretty pictures in your presentations from now on.
- Further (federally-funded) research into this issue is desperately needed.
Thank you!
