Man Accused Of Shooting Alleged Sacramento Car Thief Injured Teen Expected To Survive

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A south Sacramento man who told police he was defending his property was arrested early Wednesday after shooting a teenager who was allegedly trying to steal his car, authorities said.

Police said 42-year-old Sou Saechin told them he accidentally shot the teen at about 3 a.m. on Rock Creek Way.

But officials said Saechin went too far in trying to protect his red Honda.

"What we try to stress to people is that deadly force, the use of a firearm, is never justified under any circumstances to protect property," said Sgt. Matt Young of the Sacramento Police Department.

Police said Saechin came outside of his home armed with a .22-caliber rifle and confronted three alleged burglars.

Saechin fired one shot, hitting one of the alleged burglars in the chest. The three fled the scene, police said.

Saechin's wife said her husband was not trying to kill anyone but only wanted to warn the robbers.

Saechin was taken to jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $30,000.

The injured teenager was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center for treatment and is expected to survive.

Police said they are looking for two other people who were involved in the attempted theft. The men were described as Asian and between 18 and 20 years old.

I live in Sacramento

Tune into KFBK (AM1530); talking about it now....

Saechin was bailed out last night, and Tom Sullivan has Don Heller (VERY good atty) on defense - if he's even charged.

Thanks for the heads up; I only get to listen before & after work... Very glad to hear Saechin got bailed out. There should be a parade in his honor Saturday. If the crooks thought most citizens were like Saechin, they’d have to find a less risky occupation.

My first time here, hope I’m doing this right. If the person believed that his life was in jeopardy, he did the right thing and should not be charged. What bothers me is that according to the local tv channel, he said it was an accident.

I caught Tom Sullivans' (KFBK talk host-who personally posted bail, btw) interview with Sac DA Jan Scully.

While I applaud her decision, I think public opinion played a big role as she stuck to her anti-gun ("I don't carry or own one.") theme.

At the same time, I'll bet that crime in that neighborhood 'magically' drops, at least for awhile (pretty rough area).

Jan Scully is socialist dirt to the core.

When I voted and checked the results, nearly 3,000 had voted NO.

Interestingly, the percentages were about the same as when a small multiple of that number had voted. Given this datum, perhaps there is valid reason to say that America has rejected the Libroid’s “no property is worth a human life” talking point.

;-)
