"What is clear," said Dr Jones, "is that she had a great sense of possession for her work and she felt this gave her the moral right to take her secrets to the grave.

Doctor Ruddock, I know you performed the research, but who paid for it? The University of London, which was paying your salary in return for teaching & researching? Grantors of grant money, to advane knowledge? Your own, independent wealth?

Whatever kind of researcher she may have been, she certainly does not IM(not so)HO qualify as a "scholar".

Thankfully, unlike the infamous late night burning of Lincoln's papers, it wasn't the orignal documents being destroyed.

King Henry VII was the soul of generosity. When John Cabot returned to England after his first voyage to the New World (the basis of England’s later claims in the Western Hemisphere), King Henry gave him 10 pounds as a reward.

I wouldn’t doubt the Napoli carbonari, but they were late.

Pity. She gave a whole new slant on the academic maxim “Publish or Perish.”
