Right. And what homo sapiens does here on earth is of miniscule significance. For example, even a slight change in the orbit of the earth around the sun could freeze us out or cook us to death. Natural events such as the eruption of Mount St. Helens are more threatening than human activities. Eventually the sun will die and earth will be a desolate rock with no life as we know it, no matter what we do.

Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light— pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?

Amos 5:20

Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire," says the LORD Almighty. "Not a root or a branch will be left to them."

Malachi 4:1

I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.

Acts 2:19-20

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

2 Peter 3:10
