DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

Oh my sides. I actually heard Lee Greenwood singing while reading your post! ROFLOL.

I was thinking more of those speeches Eddie Albert used to give in the cornfield on "Green Acres."

With all due respect, the place got mean and nasty way before that. I lurked here for 2 yrs or so before 2001 so I remember well. In fact, the viciousness was one of the MAIN reasons it took me so long to sign up.

The breaking point for me was during the Terri wars, which make the current kerfuffle look like a picnic. At that time, the mods just let kookery and nastiness run wild. That’s when I stopped giving to FR.

I may still post here, but I refuse to financially enable such unhinged, unchecked, frothing-at-the mouth “conservatism”.

If y'all want a separate forum, that's your business.

Then stop trying to make it your business.

Just don't pretend that a hidden sub-forum isn't an indication of anti-freeping

Did it occur to you that maybe the other site has trolls as well (as should be obvious from Fierce Allegiance's posts above) and maybe they have a need to remove things that don't truly represent their site from public viewing as well? You know, like on FR when you hit abuse asking the mods to remove something.

It's in the early stages. Aren't they allowed to discuss how they want to run the site privately without inteference from people who are already trying to shut them down?

Before you go bashing another site, perhaps you should go take a look for yourself. As for openness, do you see everything that goes on here? Are moderators AFers because you can't see what they discuss behind closed doors?

I have my own site and my own forum. It is standard to have member only threads. Log in to WA and have at it.

I just applied as dirtboy. So we'll see what happens.

I'd also be interested if, upon being accepted, that grants access to Salt River as well.

LMAO!

Let’s hope all contenders stay the heck off Hillary Airlines !

I think he is a DISHONEST TROLL.

Well, I know it's rude to talk about someone without having the courtesy of pinging them.

Nevertheless, what has he been dishonest about? It seems to me that one of the side effects of all that "Rudy really is a conservative, regardless of his liberal record" Kool Aid that all of the Rudyites around here are drinking is paranoia.

Then stop trying to make it your business.

It becomes my business when I find out WA threads are being used to coordinate trolling on FR, like what happened in the deleted thread.

Did it occur to you that maybe the other site has trolls as well (as should be obvious from Fierce Allegiance's posts above) and maybe they have a need to remove things that don't truly represent their site from public viewing as well?

Yeah, the thread is removed only happens once the link from FR is made.

And, once again, there is a closed forum.

Aren't they allowed to discuss how they want to run the site privately without inteference from people who are already trying to shut them down?

Funny, I don't recall Liberty Post needing that. Or FR in its early days.

I have never been aware of any "members only" threads on FR. Even the DUmmies threads are open (except when they had their election night breakdown in 2004).

What is it that the "Wide Awakes" don't want FReepers to see? Is there something that they are afraid to say here?

Except it's an invitation-only site from what I can see.

The option to sign up is right there on the front page. Yes, your membership has to be approved. So if you've been trashing WA over here (a.k.a. calling it an Anti-Freeper site), chances are you're not going to get invited to the barbecue.

As for the CPs not hiding in the dark, c'mon. Some of them sure. But there were a lot of ACTIVE FReepers over there not disclosing there identity.

“A Hunter/Thompson ticket would crush the Dems no matter who they put on their ticket.”

Thank you for the words of wisdom. It is stunning that more FReepers cannot see this.

I am a Christian, my folks are Born again Christians, my oldest son is rather atheist and a libertarian, the other two are in between.

I accuse none of them. Thats life. I also will not bash any of them for taking the beliefs they have. Freedom of religion or not being religious, is supposed to be Constitutional. Funny thing though, I haven’t even seen Rudy bash anyone for being religious. Could it be he wants their vote?

The Constitution suffered because of Lincoln? Huh, the things you learn on Free Republic. /s

Well, if you spent less time trolling for personal martyrdom points, you might have read some posts about it.

Lincoln had some great qualities. But he had many many flaws and would not fit well into today's GOP. He was a Clay Whig if you know what that is. Early in his career, he made antiwar speeches as libelous to the troops and President Polk as anything the DUmmy moonbats post against our troops and president today. As president, he blatantly violated free speech, imprisoned and deported political opponents, and then sweetly held elections (hailed in most history texts as a sign of the vibrancy and durable nature of American democracy, a fun exercise when you've eliminated your opposition). That's even before we get started on the slash-and-burn tactics he ended up using against the South, his freeing of only those slaves in Confederate territory (but not those under his own jurisdiction) and his preoccupation with the idea of deporting all former slaves from the United States to their own colony, somewhere far far away.

Naturally, the public schools cannot teach all of this in any politically correct curricula and that is why so many people, like yourself apparently, are so ignorant about it.

America would never tolerate an autocrat like Lincoln (or FDR) other than in time of civil war or global war (like WW II). Those two are not in the mainstream of American presidents and their biographers make far more of them than they should while ignoring their many terrible and despicable personal qualities and foibles.

He admitted he is registered on WA to disrupt.

That's not true. I never said I was registered there. I never said I went there to disrupt. Please, I know it's nearly inmpossible for a rudytoot, and someone who is a member of an anti-FReeping site, but you really need to stop being a liar.

For you to call me a troll because I am a conservative and dislike RRudy is completely disingenuous. I expected more out of you. Oh well.
