DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

“For all your hostility I could see you leaping out of Rudy’s presidential box with the Derringer in your hand screaming your choice phrase.”

Par for the course for the Rudy Brigade.

I rather think you’re showing your true colors when you accuse conservatives who refer to Rudy as a “gun-grabber” (he is) of being “rednecks”.

You've become a parody of a "true conservative"

I'm comfortably ensconced in rural America for many years thank you; with my weaponry.

Never felt the need to arm myself when I lived in NYC....too many people to feel threatened.

More need and use for it out here where cops are unseen...thus useless.

“If this posting is any sort of indication of what the GOP primaries are going to be like, were in for a long primary season, also Id like to say that Im now completely convinced idenity politics has taken over Republican politics.....”

“Identity politics” or actual political issues?

I oppose Rudy Guiliani for his liberal positions. Take from that what you like.

Poor choice of phrase on your part. Try one with a less violent association.

“You’ve become a parody of a “true conservative””

You have no clue what that even is.

“Never felt the need to arm myself when I lived in NYC....too many people to feel threatened.”

So, what rural area did you move to and try to ruin? Why am I not surprised you are originally from NYC?

“More need and use for it out here where cops are unseen...thus useless.”

You’re obviously clueless on this issue.

For your information, Yankee, “Sic Semper Tyrannis” is the motto of the Commonwealth of Virgnia.

Still.

I trust you. But I dont think in the big picture, looking at the whole political spectrum, you can add it up and call him a liberal. Its frustrating for me personally because I have always been of the mind I would never back a liberal candidate, and I dont feel I am right now, so I think in these early debates were having on the fourm, some Rudy people, who maybe like me are sort of confused about how to approach making the case when being attacked from the right.

Back to identity politics though, it seems to me that a lot of support here and on other conservative websites goes to people whom we let the media define. When I see Fred Thompson getting a ton of conservative support this early being a complete unknown, and also having backed abortion rights as a senator, it indicates a leval of idenity politcs going on because MSNBC calls him a conservaitve...

I've noticed keyword sabotage as well. Some even uglier than what you've posted. It just reinforces my belief that they are, in general, a classless lot.

Hey, Drango!

The ironic part is that they score for our team. Like the one that used "nancywherearemymarbles" and got us 600 points! Hehe.

Uh, btw, can you slow your folding down a bit? You're crawling right up my 6 there. LOL

You’re obviously clueless on this issue.

You have issues with anyone who's ever lived and worked in NYC?

They're disqualified to be on a conservative web site? Unclean?

I dont think Obama will make it to the primary. Same with Edwards. Hillary will get the nod by hook, crook, arm twisting, and Bill. But I have seen polls where it says 40% of those polled said they would never vote for her. Thats pretty tough. I think Thompson’s “start power” can beat her, Giuliani’s popularity would do well against her. I dont know much about Romney..

” But I dont think in the big picture, looking at the whole political spectrum, you can add it up and call him a liberal.”

You are welcome to your opinion, but no one with his view and actions concerning the 1st and 2nd Amendments can possibly be someone I would use the term “conservative” to describe - at least in the American sense. I view one’s position on the 2nd to be a good indicator of their view as to the proper place of government and the actual intent of the Constituion. Rudy fails that test just like Hillary does. He’s actually to the LEFT of Howard Dean on that test, and that takes effort.

“Back to identity politics though, it seems to me that a lot of support here and on other conservative websites goes to people whom we let the media define.”

Exactly. Rudy has been defined as the Great Hero of 9/11. The “America’s Mayor” spin came from *Oprah*, after all.

“I see Fred Thompson getting a ton of conservative support this early being a complete unknown, and also having backed abortion rights as a senator, it indicates a leval of idenity politcs going on because MSNBC calls him a conservaitve...”

Fred Thompson didn’t “back abortion rights as a senator”. He has a pro-life voting record. Thompson isn’t a perfect conservative, but he actually is one. Guiliani is not.

You really don't care that Giuliani's a grabber. It's not a big deal to you. It's amazing to me that certain folks make a personal decision that they don't particularly need an effective self defense, the 2nd Amend's not important. Then they demean others that don't agree with them and fight for that right. They demean them in ways you just did, by implying they'd jump over a rail and shoot Giuliani. Typical country club BS.

I have no idea about Fred Thompson,we’ll see, I’m fairly certain Rudy can beat her, I think McCain would keep it close but probably lose, Rommney, Im wait and see on him, I think hes the wild card, were going to have to wait until the actual campagin starts to see what kind of support Rommney pulls.
I too think Clinton has the Democratic nod but honestly I dont know where all these Hillary supporters are, all the Dems I talk to are gaga over Obama. I think either is going to be tough for us and I think with them having the House and Senete, this is the most important election for the GOP in a long time

“Sockpuppet or kicked off?”

Annoyed conservative seeing the first Rudy for President articles in the media and wanting a place to vent about it is more accurate.

I could ask how much Rudy pays you folks, but that would be rude, would it not? That would be getting down to your ally’s level. Like his post above.

I own weapons for self defense...that's the only reason I own them.

No, I don't think Rudy is going to take my guns away.

I will own them and have the right to defend myself and my property before and after he took office.

From race32008
In 1994, Thompson’s first Senate run, National Right to Life deemed Thompson pro-life, but with an important caveat:

If you pick up the 1994 post-election edition of National Right to Life news, you’ll see a list of pro-life Senators elected in the class of ‘94. Thomspon was on the list, with a cross by it.

“The cross stood for Thompson’s support for legal 1st Trimester abortion. He was generally pro-life, but supported abortion during the 1st trimester. National Right to Life, as an incrimentalist organization, would much more prefer to have a Senator who favored 1st Trimester abortions and would vote for them on the rest of the issues. However, he would be defined as pro-choice in some places and would be defined as moderately pro-choice by me. Of course, Thompson hasn’t had to deal with where he stands on 1st Trimester abortions since 1996. “

This is the one trip up with the Thompson is great on aboriton argument. Although I am sure his senete record is an accurate reflection, and indeed would reflect my own.
