Where you find some softness is in some elements of the media or in some elements of the intellectual class who convince themselves that this is our fault Sort of like you're doing when you imply the problem is that the Euros just haven't spread their legs wide enough for their new colonizers? "Our Muslim population is better educated and economically better off than the average American." When my Grandfather visited the USA from England, he was amazed at two things above all else.
First was our high standard of living. He was constantly told we were poorer than they, had high crime, etc.
Second was our forests. He was flat out amazed as we drove through and flew over forests larger than he had ever seen. He had been told we had clear cut our forests and destroyed our environment.
