I thought I read somewhere that if asbestos would have been sprayed on the trusses, the buildings would not have collapsed.

Asbestos fireproofing was used on the lower floors of the Towers, with other types on the upper floors, as the regulations changed during construction.

It is hotly (!) debated among engineers whether the buildings might have stood longer if the upper floors had also been fireproofed with asbestos. It is generally agreed that asbestos fireproofing is more shock and impact resistant than other types.

It is doubtful that using asbestos would have prevented the collapse. However, it might have delayed it, allowing some unknown number of people to reach safety.
