Illegal immigrants have no incentive to comply with our law. This is exactly a$$-backwards. Our system should be configured so immigrants have the strongest incentives to comply.

If all immigrants are admitted through a controlled process where they are identified biometrically, then we can expell them and keep them out if they violate any of our laws. Furthermore, we can require them to learn the language and the basics of our country if they want to stay. The right to stay in this country would be a powerful incentive to keep your nose clean.

In order to make this work we need to:

#1. Control the FReepin’ border.
#2. Issue an ID which includes biometric data to every immigrant. Record the biometric data in a permanent database. Store a DNA sample from each immigrant for future dispute resolution.
#3. Control the FReepin’ border.
#4. Expel those who break the law or refuse to comply with our requirements.
#5. Control the FReepin’ border.
#6. Check all new immigrants against the list of those already expelled using recorded biometric data.
And finally...
#7. Control the FREEPIN’ BORDER!!!

Without border control, nothing else works.

You do realize the person was not talking about deporting American citizens with DUIs but foreigners. Don’t you?

Illegals are nothing new to this country, does Ronald Reagan have blood on his hands for every crime an illegal committed under his presidency too?

Yes. Realistically, there is a little blood on the hands of every president for one reason or another. It comes with the job. Unfortunately when a president neglects in a big way part of his job and the consequence is such that those here illegally kill those here by right, this blood is on his hands. He can't bring the dead people back but he could save lives in the future by enforcing the law, which I don't see him doing. It's an outrage and a crime.

You seem to have the attitude that since, and because, citizens have always gotten drunk and killed other citizens, therefore when illegals come in and kill each other and citizens, we ought not criticize it, nor blame the president.

No, to that. Drunk citizens is one problem and not the president's fault. Illegals, drunk or not, is a separate problem and is the presidents fault and the fault of many others. People on this thread seem to think the president has so much power. I think he has much less power then most of us think and is not enforcing the immigration laws because if he did, it would create, in his belief, a larger problem somewhere else. The American People are just one small faction of many that are trying to influence the president. He's not just the president of my neighbors and me, he's the president of the government that oversees commercial interests, and he's a player on the world stage of nations and their struggle for natural resources. In the seven minute video below, past the fluff, Bush attempts to explain why bad things prevail, he says money trumps peace. What we need is a president who can say no to money and do the right thing even if the cost is money. Bush is not that man. I don't know who is, it might be Paul, or Tancredo, or not. But Bush is definitely not.

” How about deporting ALL people convicted of DWI “

What’s your definition of “ALL” in capital letters?

Just to play Devil’s Advocate - You suggested that all immigrants be issued biometric ID cards and so forth. OK, now prove that YOU are here legally. No immigrant ID? Sorry, amigo, you are going to Mexico! You have blond hair and blue eyes and claim to be a US citizen - prove it!

I carry a Maryland drivers license, but this f***ed up state wants to issue them to illegals, so that is no help. Conservatives used to be dead set against a national ID card, but it looks like that is changing.

“Drinking excessively as well as drunk driving certainly aren’t unique to hispanics”

No but the article does say that the rate at which they get into booze related car accidents is more than three times higher than the rate for the general population.

I had to prove I was here legally when I got my last job. The Three Part form. I used my Driver's License, Passport, Birth Certificate and Social Security Card.

Everybody has to prove they have the right to be here and work when they get employment. Unless the employer is not fulfilling his obligation, as so many do not.

Does that include the President and the Vice President?

DWIs are horrible; don’t get me wrong. However, people can and do rehabilitate from this mistake.

Does it?

Lots of stories out there, but the only well-known President to do it while President was LBJ.

I'd deported him and his kinfolk in a New York second.

President Bush and Vice President Cheney were also caught drinking and driving (the Vice President twice) during their younger years.

A DWI or two 25 to 35 years ago does not determine who you are today.

Didn’t suggest shipping either of them out. That would be ex post facto law. However, that shouldn’t keep us from starting the practice today eh!
