Thompson: 'charisma out of his ears'
Knoxville News Sentinel ^ | 4/1/7 | Knox Calling

Posted on 04/01/2007 8:02:47 AM PDT by SmithL

Former Tennessee U.S. senator and television actor Fred Dalton Thompson has not decided whether to run for president in 2008, but that hasn't stopped people from talking as if he is in the race.

There is a Draft Thompson Web site, www.fred08.com, launched by U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Chattanooga, that asks for contributions and moral support. The site also compares Thompson, first elected to the Senate in 1994, to former President Ronald Reagan.

"This is no flirtation," Wamp told The Washington Post. "People want someone they can trust and someone that is strong. He has charisma coming out of his ears."

John McCain, a friend of Thompson's: "I've often said, if I had his voice, I'd be president of the United States today."

Yeah, right...that's the ticket.

Duncan Hunter might be a wonderful man and a great conservative, but he cannot go up against Hillary Clinton's star power. Fred can. Thompson/Hunter sounds good, though.

With that flawed logic, the Dems should can Hillary and Obama's campaigns and nominate Kathleen Blank-O.

I'm with you!! Everyone keeps chasing someone who has not announced when we already have a real conservative running!

I have nothing against Fred Thompson but don't really know that much about him. And as far as star quality, I have never seen an episode of Law and Order or anything else he has acted in. If he really is conservative, my first concern would be, what exactly is his stance on pro-life issues.

U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee: "He has a conservative bearing and a conservative presence, but he's independent in his thinking and his voting record."

Uh-oh. (And what the hell are "conservative bearing" and "conservative presence?" I didn't know someone could have such things. Does he have "conservative ideas" and "conservative positions?" Or is Lamar simply talking out of his @$$?)

Of course he can. I don't care how a guy looks on camera, a pleasing voice or if he has a great head of hair. I'm voting for someone with my principles. I'm supporting a statesman.

I'm also supporting someone who actually announced his candidacy.

The basic problem goes beyond Bush. Harry Truman was a great executive, probably the best administrator we have ever had as President, and he not only hired Hoover to propose significant reforms, but implemented many of the, HOWEVER, what overwhelmed even him was the sheet size of the Federal Government, and the inescapable fact that an effective government needs great administrators at the highest levels. Even Truman had only one George Marshall.
