Two Sabino High School students are listed in fair condition at University Medical Center. They were injured when a boulder fell on them while hiking.
A HH60 Pavehawk, a cousin to the Blackhawk, rescued two teenage boys from Mt. Lemmon Wednesday.
The 563rd and 55th Rescue Squadrons deployed form Davis Monthan Airforce Base with a para rescue jumper on board. They rescued 18 year old Adam Roberts and 16 year old Kevin Swen.
The para rescue jumper told News 4 he decided to bring Roberts up first, becuase of his injuries and the fact that hypothermia had set in.
A total of four boys from Sabino High School went on the hiking trip after school. All of them are on the wrestling team. The assistant principal says he spoke to Tyler Durn, the friend who ran out of the canyon to get help. The fourth student, Michael Duprey, stayed behind to help the injured boys.
Kudos to the wrestling coach, who has taught the boys the value of teamwork. (Assumption, of course.)
Mt Lemmon is so close in to Tucson that folks tend to think of it as little more than a big city park.
But it can still bite you.
FUn place tohike if you are equipped.
I did the Hohokum trial a zillion years ago.
