... In his first campaign for public office, Thompson was elected by the people of Tennessee in 1994 to the remaining two years of an unexpired Senate term. When he was returned for a full term in 1996, he received more votes than any previous candidate for any office in Tennessee history. He won two elections in two years by more than twenty points each. Senator Thompson retired from the Senate in 2002, having served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, and a member of the Senate committee on Finance.
In his time in the Senate, Thompson focused on issues such as reducing taxes, curbing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and eliminating government waste, fraud and abuse.
Since his retirement from the Senate, Thompson has returned to acting and plays Arthur Branch on the NBC series "Law and Order." In addition, Thompson was named by President Bush as an informal advisor to Supreme Court Chief Justice nominee John Roberts, moving his nomination through the Senate...

Fred would be the "place" where all but the angels fear to tread. He would silence those of lesser ability and with Duncan Hunter on the team, I believe we could achieve the WWW SMACKDOWN Event of 2008.
Well, if he's going to do it, he'd better get with it. Every day he waits is a day of organizational opportunities lost.
I get goosebumps over a Thompson/Hunter ticket.
HONK!
PING!
BUMP!
Don't care about TV or that show. I'm in with Fred. I want the real deal.
Fred come along and honor us. Your nation needs you.
Fred Thompson is an acceptable candidate.
It`s time for him to get off that pot.
He must run, he simply must. Fred Thompson is the next President of the United States. Support FDT for President in 2008!
Absolutely. With Bolton as Secretary of State.
Fred would be the "place" where all but the angels fear to tread. He would silence those of lesser ability and with Duncan Hunter on the team, I believe we could achieve the WWW SMACKDOWN Event of 2008.
Which event, the one in the spring or the one in the fall?
Some questions for "all":
1. Is there a chart that compares Fred Thompson to Rudy Guiliani to Hilary Clinton? (in the same format as the chart that compares Rudy Guiliani to Hilary Clinton)
2. How are the MSM Rudy pals reacting to a Fred Thompson run?
3. Is there ANY Thompson vs Hilary poll?
4. Didn't some other Thompson recently announce his presidential candidacy? ( a pro-forma candidate to confuse names?)
:-) Slap yourself and wakeup:-() HONK, HONK refers to a FReeper who says: 'honk, honk if your are for Fred Thompson' ASSuming is a risky thing:-)
Not exactly.. imagine a movie that is hyped and hyped in sneak trailers and word of mouth buzz years before launch.. (LOTR).. that buzz creates a groundswell of interest with the mystery factor. Once a candidate declares, he is just another of the many who has declared. If, however, he is unique, the 'undeclared' candidate who is leading, then he has a unique thing that keeps him in the media and people's minds..
They actually have played this hand before, remember Bedtime for Bonzo?
But there is a problem with money.
Rudy's staffers are out there pushing for early primaries which favor his well funded coffers.
It also means that their fund raising machine can say "thomson is not declared so give us your money"
I see your point. Until recent history, I've always been acused of seeing the world through rose colored glasses, but I can't stop dreaming and the ticket of Thompson/Hunter makes me feel like a kid again.
