Considering the current attitude probably should emphasize: in the earlier comment (to which this one is a response), "Such as statement isn't entirely unfounded."

There, entirely was put there, and not only to make the sentence longer.

They could be Christians, or they could happen to not be Christians, and they also could be idiots, though not necessarily. As for being part of a [bad] cult (though technically all non-Christians are in collusion with [darkness]), that probably isn't the case.

The Bible has plenty of accounts of Israel going astray, and God punishing them: with their armies losing and their soldiers dying; people dying of plague because King David had a census; with their country being crushed and a lot of their people being put into exile. So for Christians to propose that soldiers dying in Asia is because the United States has gone astray isn't all that insane of a prospect.

P.S. By the way, personally do not necessarily support their view that the American troops deaths in Iraq are tied directly to the United States' turning from God.

Christianity does hold the view that homosexuality is bad. Christians can be friends with homosexuals, and can definitely work with them, and even more definitely let them come to church (so that they might change), without becoming members

Good grief! You can't possibly imagine these people are Christians. They advocate the destruction of the U.S. because a portion of the population's belief that homosexuality is against Christianity.

They celebrate the death of U.S. soldiers based on the hate they carry in them about homosexuals. They interrupt Christian funerals and the consecration of the remains of Christians because of their hate. Hate is not a Christian attribute.

To defend these aberrations of Christianity is pure folly.

Iiiiiinteresting.

According to this BBC article, Theroux has interviewed members of the Klan.

How does he consider the Phelpses to be more extreme than the Klan? For one, they are probably as anti-homosexuality as the Phelpses, and added onto that they are racist and have violent history. Also, personally wouldn't consider them to be among the most intelligent of people.

They are devoid of rationality, not unlike any of the extreme muslims.

If they protested a funeral of a soldier that was in my family I would take their signs away from them. If they struck me in the least I would beat them to an inch of their lives.

The Phelps have their purpose and place. That would be to cover Rosie and other like her in a mass grave.

Agree with your analysis: "The Bible has plenty of accounts of Israel going astray, and God punishing them: with their armies losing and their soldiers dying; people dying of plague because King David had a census; with their country being crushed and a lot of their people being put into exile. So for Christians to propose that soldiers dying in [Iraq] is because the United States has gone astray isn't all that insane of a prospect."

And as in the Old Testament, persons who propose that their country will be punished for its sins often are not popular - I think one Old Testament prophet was put into prison or a well for his unpopular remarks - Jeremiah?

"While in bad form, it doesn't make it all the way (at least, personally) to extreme"

No, disrupting the funerals of American heroes with the message that their deaths are somehow deserved goes way beyond "bad form" and lands firmly in the 'extreme' realm. .....as most sane people would agree.

Wow. Just watched Louis Theroux's documentary and I'm not sure whether to kidnap the small children in that family or just sit back in baffled amazement. A whole load of people brought up under the thrall of an old man who can't answer the simplest of questions. Have any of them even read the Bible? The whole "worshipping false gods" thing certainly seems to have passed them by.

Furthermore, neither you, the article, nor other freepers so far have even suggested that the Phelpses support the murder of either the troops, homosexuals, or other groups.

"Pray for more American bodies blown to smithereens by cheap home made Iraqi IEDs"

"Pray for more dead bodies floating on the fag-semen-rancid waters of New Orleans."

" Thank God for the lightning bolt that caused the explosion that trapped the Sago miners. God killed them and cast them into hell. "

"Westboro Baptist Church to picket Amish funerals"

[Alan]COLMES: "Did those girls deserve to be killed?"

PHELPS-ROPER: "Well, they did get killed, and they did that. Who controls the hearts of men? It was at the hand of an angry God those girls are dead."

[Alan]COLMES: "Did they deserve to die?"

PHELPS-ROPER: "They did deserve to die."

Did you read the link I gave to you?

Then go to their site and you will see the above quotes as well as others, wishing death and destruction on our military, government, country, homosexuals, Britan, Sweden and just about anyone who isn't like them. While there, I noticed that they refer to God and the Old Testament a great deal, but rarely refer to Christ and the New Testament.

Who pays the expenses of the Phelps cult of inbreds to junket around the country?

Hint: It begins with an S and ends with an S and has an R in the middle and two O's in between.
