This is huge, prayers to those who lost pets or had to take the sick dog/cat to the vet to get healthy again.
Hope that Menu Foods pays for the Vet Bills and the like.

Notice how they say imported wheat but don't say where it came from? From I have heard, the wheat came from China.

Hill's Pet Nutrition recalled its Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry cat food.

Whoa, I just bought some of that today. I think it's still in the van!

I'll take it back to the vet's on Monday and exchange it for a different brand.

my yorkie's been sick the last couple of days, not eating, lethargic, vomiting. But, he hasn't eaten anything from the list. Going to call the vet tomorrow. Hopefully, not related and only a little dog virus.

Melamine is supposed to be toxic, at least according to Home Depot. When I worked there, we were not allowed to cut sheets of it due to the dust. I have no idea why they made this decision.

But the debate over the toxin, and the concentration involved, reinforces my belief that the problem is biologic. If some poison got into the wheat, it would contaminate some products, then the poison would be diluted as more food was processed through the line. Unless someone continued to put the poison in the food, it would quickly go away. The first few batches of food would have lethal doses of poison, but as the food passed over the poison, it would take the poison with it.

This story involves thousands, or tens of thousands, of animals. Only something that can reproduce could contaminate that much food.

Notice its those "upscale" or "more sophisticated diet" types with this recall? My cats and dog (who thinks she's a cat too) always loved the el-cheapo, generic pet food brands and have few digestive problems too.

The last time (a few years ago) i tried a special diet stuff, IAMS, they all had the runs and major house clean up was in order.

BTW>>>With dry pet foods, throw it in the freezer for 24 hours after buying it, that kills tiny bugs that get in there in shipment or in warehouses.

I lost my favorite cat to this just last month, and he was the most affectionate one I ever had. It was obvious he'd ingested a nerve toxin, but I didn't know until now what could have happened. The culprit? IAMS brand canned catfood.

My dogs were not eating any of the affected brands listed & two of mine have been vomitting on & off the past few days. I'm beginning to think they have NO CLUE to what is causing this & whatever it is may be in ALL dog food!!!!

I'd like to know if this is jihadists doing a test to see just how vulnerable the food supply chain is. Will they put poison in people food next?
Our food supply chain is vulnerable. Our power distribution system is vulnerable. The country goes into panic mode at the least little thing. All the jihadis have to do is hit 2 places at once successfully and the country is in 24 hour panic mode.

"Federal testing of recalled pet foods turned up a chemical used to make plastics..."

I remember dishes made of melamine. sheesh How in the world did it get mixed up with manufactured pet food?

Melamine is a synthetic polymer which is fire resistant and heat tolerant. Melamine is a very versatile material with a highly stable structure. Uses for melamine include whiteboards, floor tiles, kitchenware, fire retardant fabrics, and commercial filters. Melamine can be easily molded while warm, but will set into a fixed form. This property makes it ideally suited to certain industrial applications.

Melamine is manufactured by mixing urea with formaldehyde under heat and pressure. The substances begin to polymerize and are forced into a mold which will create the desired shape. Under pressure, melamine releases water, which could make the plastic unstable if it is not removed. The materials finish polymerizing and create a finished product, melamine.

This is just heartbreaking. Might I suggest that everyone check out Wysong pet food products (http://www.wysong.net). As far as I know, they are not part of any recalls, and my cats and dog love their food. You can order online and have everything shipped right to your door.
