Pelosi makes second visit to Middle East

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) arrived in Israel on Friday and planned to visit Syria, a country the Bush administration has shunned, on her second fact-finding trip to the Middle East since taking the gavel in January.
Pelosi's repeat trip to the Middle East indicates she has no intention of letting the White House have the sole province on foreign policy. She has already forced legislation through the House that would order all combat troops out of Iraq by September 2008, a measure that resembles a similar measure approved by the Democratic-run Senate.
The Bush administration has mostly refused to engage Syria diplomatically because of its ties to terrorist networks. U.S. officials held their first direct, high-level contact with Syrian representatives in years this month when they met with officials from several Middle East countries in Baghdad to discuss Iraq.
Others traveling with Pelosi were Democratic Reps. Keith Ellison (news, bio, voting record) of Minnesota, Henry Waxman (news, bio, voting record) and Tom Lantos (news, bio, voting record) of California, and Nick Rahall (news, bio, voting record) of West Virginia, and Ohio Republican David Hobson (news, bio, voting record). Ellison is the first Muslim member of Congress.
The House has adjourned for a two-week spring break.
The group planned to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and to travel to the West Bank to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said Ellison's spokesman, Rick Jauert.
The speaker plans to address the Israeli Knesset on Sunday in what will be her first address to a foreign government and as the highest ranking American woman to speak before the Israeli parliament, according to Pelosi's office.

I think this may be good news. The president will return the vetoed bill, and she may need cover from the left in order to fold.

She can claim that her influence in Syria made the difference and violence will now decline, so the risk to our servicemen is diminished enough to grant one more year of funding -- but next year will be shut off for sure if things do not improve. But because of her mtgs in Syria, she thinks they WILL improve and thus Democrats can ALLOW the troops to remain.

This trip to Syria just shows how fricken naive she is. Does she really think that visiting there can help the US at all?? On the other hand, it can do a great deal of damage. But no, she has to go over there like she's going to save the world. I don't think I've been this mad in a long while.
Take her plane and security away. Now. The troops are already overburdened and have inferior equipment/supplies. This is overtaxing the budget.
And there is no constitutional provision for the SOH to perform the function of the executive branch. It is detrimental to the country!!!!! When she next steps onto a US military plane, the pilot should bring those folks back to the US. The executive needs to exert some authority here.
But maybe I'm a little hysterical over this. (not really) The POTUS does have the authority to turn the plane around. Or Nancy could fly commercial. Also, it looks like the POTUS approves of these travels if he lets them continue on their merry way.

I sincerely doubt that she wants to help America. She only wants to help her party, even if it means the ultimate loss of American lives on a huge scale.

I really think that this delusional, narcissistic witch believes that she personally won a national election. Queen of the Seventh Grade Prom is the perfect description. What an embarassment. And don't get me started on the clown posse she is dragging along behind her.

Which begs the question: Which is a higher position, Speaker of the House or Sec. of State?
i.e. Does a straight flush beat a full house? But in Pelosi's case, she could never be part of a straight flush from SF!
Sentences like this one are why I cannot take AP seriously. Besides Democratic party hacks (including the ones who work for AP), who says the White House has made any such claim? Who made it, and on what occassions? To be sure, the Constitution vests the Executive Branch with primary responsibility for conducting foreign policy.
Is she going to ask where the WMD's are buried?
On another note I see the house has adjourned so there can't be a resolution between the house surrender bill and the Senate surrender bill until mid April. When Bush vetoes it they will be at the April 15 deadline for funding for the troops. This is obviously in line with Pelosi's promise to make the house work harder and longer to pass necessary legislation. /sarc/
