Good rant.
If Hunter can show ANY traction, I'll support him. It's not necessarily jumping on the bandwagon, it's him showing us he has even a slight shot of winning, or competing.
Not as much as you'd think. The flame wars occur all the time, it's just that they're generally on issues that only affect a subset of the posters. However, it's been 8 years since a contested GOP primary, which essentially affects all posters. Believe me, it's no worse than it was in '99. In fact, most of the posts are just recycled with different names attached to them.
Try running it under warm water. Now this thread is really going somewhere.
I liked most of your 'soapbox' ... 8.5
Especially, when fellow FReepers get mean and nasty,
I know it's very cliche, but when you throw dirt, you lose ground.
Hope you feel better now !
What drives me bonkers is people who say someone doesn't have a chance this far out so they should shut up. That they become infuriated just by the mention of the persons name on a thread.
And the folks who say OBL id dead. Bring me the body, (or at least his head). I'd rather be suspicious that he's keeping his head low and plotting than thinking he is dead and letting our guard down.
You make quite a few good points which I *mostly* agree with, with a few comments:
The MSM is NOT dying, BUT - "alternative" media IS gaining ground. Granted, it's got nowhere to go but up. We can't forget things like the Swift Boaters and the Pajamaheeden. They do have influence. And a sizeable % of people do watch Fox News. Not a majority, but "enough."
A-men on the GOP not sticking up for their own.
Hillary is electable. However, her victory is not invetitable. I still believe she IS beatable if we don't sit on our laurels.
The Dems and GOP both have fairly low approval ratings now. The fact is though, most voters aren't all that ideological. There are some conservatives, some liberals, and a lot of clueless moderates. We're neither a liberal nation nor a conservative one as a whole. Both liberal and conservative candidates can appeal to the "middle" with the right approach.
Single Issue Voters do piss me off. What also pisses me off is when people call me a single-issue voter for not supporting Rudy. It's not a single-issue problem for him, he's wrong on HUNDREDS of issues. I will vote for him (most likely) if he gets the nomination though for reasons you and others have stated.
I try to keep the insults to a minimum, once in a while I slip.
You've been in NYC way too long............
I'm firmly against it.
Honestly, I'm not all that convinced he's good on fiscal issues either.
Hey, you're the one that wrote 'holistacally'
When I talk about "single issue voters", I wasn't necessarily referring to the Rudy candidacy. I was referring to the folks that say... "if they're not pro-life, I'm staying home", or "if they're not strongly pro-2nd amendment", or...
oh yes. rudy. strong on crime. hated by the cops and firemen he presided over. but whatever. i'll vote for the republican nominee. hope it's thompson though!
Four errors in three words. But that's the point.
Good thoughts.
I totally agree on us not fighting back - we are too busy joining in and fighting against George Bush.
Apparently our people are really not as smart as they think they are as they follow along and trash George Bush, leaving the democrats free to spread their lies.
On Cheney - any positive comments by Cheney or any GOP will not be reported in the MSM.
We must find some way to counter the power of the media and until we do - we will lose.
In addition, IF a liberal gets elected, expect changes to the electoral college rules of voting, expect them to institute whatever changes are required to PREVENT THE ELECTION OF FUTURE GOP CANDIDATES.
All those believing that if a liberal gets in, things will be so bad that the public will suddenly turn around and vote for pure conservatism need to grow up and study how democracies work, how those that crave power manipulate our laws, our judges, our media to keep that power.
Our country needs conservatives that will fight the enemy, that are realistic as to how to gain power and that will continually move our agenda forward in some direction even though not getting their desires each and every day.
We cannot win without an army following the leader.
I agree with you, but would add my pet peeve of people hijacking every single thread with immigration debates.
Thanks for that tidbit. I wasn't around 8 years ago, so I'll defer to you on that.
And a Sharapova in every bedroom!.......
