Our office buys steelcase furniture. The good thing about them it is reasonably safe to hide under them during an earthquake, or as safe place as you can quickly find.

For years in the field, mobile labs ended up with a wide assortment of 'auction specials' and hand-me-down furniture, usually chairs.

I have worked at the microscope while sitting on 50 year-old office chairs (doubtless at one time graced by far more attractive derrierres (8^D)).

Quality construction holds up. Junk is junk.

I also wonder if, in the age of international terror, there is a market for 'bulletproof' cubicle panels...
