“RUN FRED RUN” Texas Statewide Elected Officials Urge Fred Thompson to Enter Presidential Race

Today, two prominent Texas statewide elected officials announced their support of the growing national movement to encourage former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) to seek the Republican nomination for president.

While we agree there are several good candidates currently in the race, we believe Fred Thompson would add an exciting option for Republican primary voters.

A recent Rasmussen poll indicated that in a general election match-up, Fred Thompson leads Senator Hillary Clinton by a margin of 44% to 43%, notwithstanding the fact Thompson is not yet a candidate.

In our opinion, unlike the current front runner, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson is right on virtually all issues important to Republican primary voters.

“I believe Mayor Giuliani was an outstanding mayor, and would be a credible commander in chief in the War on Terror. However, I cannot support him in the Republican primary because of his position on the 2nd Amendment’s enumerated right to keep and bear arms”, stated Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, who authored the Texas concealed handgun law while a state senator.

“I’m impressed by what I see and hear about Senator Thompson--he’s consistently pro life, pro traditional marriage, a supporter of the right to keep and bear arms, and strong on national defense,” said commissioner Victor Carrillo, a statewide elected official responsible for regulation of the oil, gas, and mining sectors in Texas.

We believe Fred Thompson should run. His ability to communicate is reminiscent of Ronald Reagan. His record as a U.S. Senator makes him a known quantity to voters, and his entry into the race will add excitement and motivate the conservative Republican base.

“We’ve won statewide primaries and general elections in Texas. We know what it takes to win in Texas. Fred Thompson has what it takes”, stated Commissioner Patterson, who has a record of winning elections in spite of being dramatically outspent by his opponents.

For these and other reasons we say: RUN FRED RUN!

Quite honestly, what worries me about Fred Thompson (for whom I'd vote in a second) is what kind of records does Her Thighness Clinton have on him. After all, she was involved in the deliberate theft of over 900 FBI records (good and bad) on all sorts of Republicans. He's probably in there somewhere.

I think he's fabulous, and I think if the Republicans are smart (altho they're called the Stupid Party), they'll draft him in a minute and put somebody on the ticket like Congolesa Rice or Romney. Can't see how a ticket like that couldn't knock Her Hitlery on her big royal a$$.

At usatoday.com:

Is Thompson going to run?

"My sense is he is seriously considering it. No other way to put it," [Thompson's spokesman] Corallo said. Here's another sign that Thompson is on the move: His wife Jeri, a former GOP PR operative, has been dusting off her old political reporter contacts list.

The Rudybots aren't going to like this.

Here we have a guy that, so far, has only stated the he's giving serious consideration to running, and you have people from all over hoping, urging, even begging that he run. And some recent poll has him beating Hitlery and taking votes from Rudy.

Now add state politico's from the President's state urging him to run?

Interesting indeed!

People willing to call for you to run are stronger endorsements than people who endorse you when you ask them.

I donno. I think just about any republican in the top tier could beat Hillary. At the moment, though, I would see it as especially nice if Fred Thompson were to do it...

Thompson may have more endorsements than Rudy before he even enters the race.

As a 100% GOP participant in primary voting and a delegate to the last Texas GOP Convention, (The largest political convention in the world) I would very much like to see the participation of either Thompson or Hunter in our primary.

Conservatives must participate and attend these things or we wind up with RINO's. Some slip by anyway. "Guv Hairdo" as a case in point.

Why would that be any worse for Fred than anybody else?

I imagine she has the worst scuttlebutt on Newt and Giuliani. They have no self control whatsoever, whereas Fred seems to be very disciplined and honorable.

My sense is whatever there is, Fred will mow it down. Fred completely wiped out the Goracle's Tennessee Senate seat and won by a landslide -- biggest statewide vote total in state history. Nothing bad came out in that election, and you know the Clinton machine would have wanted to hold the seat Gore held.

So unless he turns out to be an axe murderer in drag, it isn't going to dent him. Fred has that plain spoken command that just cuts to the quick and leave you saying yeah, that's right. He did that when in the Senate.

The only thing is he did not support impeachment of Clinton.
