"Heather MacDonald is one of the most well-known members of the Manhattan Insititute."

That's interesting. I just posted about Tamar Jacoby being with the Manhattan Inst. who is just the opposite of MacDonald, who has done some great work on this issue. Too bad Bush doesn't listen to Heather instead of Tamar. I bet Rudy won't either.

Here's some praise Tamar has for Rudy.

(Update) Giuliani Supports Guest-Worker Program on National Security Grounds

(The Manhattan Institute's Tamar Jacoby seconds, in the Washington Post, an argument Rudy Giuliani has been making to audiences. She writes: “The point is obvious enough: We need to take the busboys out of the equation (by means of a temporary worker program) so that Border Patrol can focus on the smugglers and terrorists who pose a genuine threat. And, just as urgent, we need to find a way to bring the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the country onto the right side of the law, creating incentives for them to come forward, then registering, screening and, as long as they stay here, keeping track of them.”)

Post on April 5, 2006:

Opponents of President Bush's immigration position like to claim the high ground on national security. They rightly claim that we must secure our border, especially in a post 9/11 world. But at the same time many also contend that a guest-worker program would weaken U.S. security. Well, Mayor Giuliani argues that 9/11 is a reason why we need such a program.

From today's Chicago Sun Times:

Giuliani wants to 'regularize' immigrants to improve safety:

Turning 11 million illegal immigrants into criminals is not the way to secure the nation's borders or prevent another terrorist attack, former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Tuesday.

The way to do that is to "regularize," document, photograph and fingerprint immigrants to drive what Giuliani called "this vast underground" above ground....

"The president is right to support a guest-workers program," Giuliani said. "If we recognize it, document it, photograph it and know who and what it is, then we can concentrate our attention on the people who aren't coming in to be guest workers but are coming in to bomb us, or coming in to sell heroin or cocaine or to launder money.

"By having this vast underground, we are much more insecure," said Giuliani, a former U.S. attorney. "And by trying to do the impossible, we're much more insecure. If you have 11 million people in this country who are illegal or undocumented, and you have similar numbers coming in through this underground, that is a much, much more dangerous situation for terrorists to exploit, drug dealers to exploit and other criminals to exploit."

...On Tuesday, Giuliani acknowledged that the immigration issue has divided his Republican Party and the nation. But that's partly because it's being conducted "as a theoretical debate," when immigration is "a fact" of life, he said.

"People want to come to the United States. That is a good thing. We want people to want to come to the United States. That means we're still the shining city on the hill. We're still the place [where] people see greater opportunity, greater freedom, a better way to create a better life for themselves and their families," he said.

I have been reminded that the Manhatten inst. also has Heather McDonald on board, who had done spectacular work on this issue. But it seems Rudy has a fan in Tamar.

I have now come to the conclusion that Rudy is every bit as power hungry as Hillary.

If you are a conservative, and do not support Rudy for Emperor...Perhaps you have been infected!

Infected by the "Airborne Virus"!!

Nope. I don't give people bonus points for serving in Vietnam or anywhere else if what they're saying is krap. Not John Kerry, not "Airborne." Actually, he was referring to Hunter as a Vietnam vet. It's a fair point in a presidential race, but only if the candidate is otherwise good. Hunter (unlike "Airborne") is good, but not good enough, because he's not electable.

I'm just trying to contain the "Airborne" virus, which is very dangerous, since this kind of "thinking" may send the country down the drain by electing Shrillary or Osama Obama.

You deserve an FRpology. My hubby also served in Vietnam. I appreciate your service as most people do on this site.

Do not let Rudyits take from you the pride we have for the people who don't just talk, but put their life on the line for all of us who get to babble on everyday.

Thank you, airborne! If we are infected by a virus, it certainly was a good one you infected us with.

"Fisher similarly had founded the Institute of Economic Affairs in England in the 1950s. That think tank became the intellectual engine room for conservative Prime Minister Thatcher, who embraced its privatization policies. "

Gee, last time he ran for Mayor he sought and received endorsed from the far Left Liberal Party of NYC.

If that ain't the definition of a card-carrying Liberal, I don't know what is...

Endorsements do not excuse Giuliani's stances, I'm sorry.

Bush endorsed Harriet Miers. Remember how ticked everyone was here?

N-i-c-e take.

We must keep in mind that, more than a phony conservative, Rudeo is a danger and a threat to the republic as we know it.

Rudeo is a Democrat squatting in the Repub party, and he and his handlers clearly intend to makeover our party into a clone of the Dims.

Rudeo would weaken our Nation b/c he would erase the systems of checks and balances the Framers wisely built into our system of government.

This is not what the Founders intended.

Rudeo is a threat to America and Americans. He should get out of our party, and out of the 2008 race NOW.

Here, Here. I second that motion. I think it is a shame that so-called conservatives feel the need to insult conservative veterans to bolster up a RINO. I guess that is what happens when the new liberal conservatives seek to impose their will on others. They do it by spamming and bully tactics.

It's laughable that the guy has to take classes so he can "talk" conservatives into
voting for him. Who knew the learning curve to be a conservative was so steep?

"Oh, please, let me sound like a conservative. I need those
dumb Christian conservatives to make a decent primary showing."

People need to learn fast that because some outfit calls itself conervative, doesn't mean it is!

Well, people do need to do their research.

The Manhatten Institute and Club for Growth come to mind.

I find nothing wrong with the Pat Toomey led Club for Growth, it's past president was an amnesty maniac, but he's no longer there.

Rudy's candidacy was supposed to be an Hour of Triumph.

Liberal goons had worked so long and hard, in the Republican party, in the media, especially in our schools, to change the culture, to demolish traditional American values, so that conservatives would be on the outside looking in.

Julie-Annie was supposed to sail to victory, the linchpin in The Plan to takeover the party, to make the Republican Party a liberal clone of the Dims.

The Plan was based on the ignorant assumption that conservatives would rollover and play dead.......Didn't happen.

Turning the Republican Party into a clone of the Dims would allow liberals to control all facets of the US government. Savvy conservatives know Rudeo poses a serious danger to the republic; he and his handlers would eradicate the system of checks and balances our Founders wisely wrote into our system of government.

Rudeo should get out of the race, and out of the Republican party, NOW, before the imminent danger he poses to our republic becomes real.

I totally agree with you. I have always believed that conservatism was all that kept us from being taken over by the left.

The people that want us to forget the social issues must be in agreement with the left.

Liberals, socialists, communists and leftists certainly do not just forget social issues. Breaking down our culture and stripping our liberty depends on destroying everything that we have held dear in the social sense. It is integral to their victory.

The people that wish to just forget our right to keep and bear arms are ignorant as to why we are supposed to care. Our framers always knew of the possibility of a future "bad government. Just as they fought for our freedom back then, they wanted that protection there in case it was ever needed for American citizens in the future. They were very wise. Today they are still wise and unappreciated by so many fools.

This with Rudy is no victory. It is no win if you have sacrificed all that you and others have fought so long to keep. Maybe people will have to fall to the bottom of lifes heap in order to wake up.
