So long as China cannot defeat the US in a military conflict over the US, I really don't care.
"So long as China cannot defeat the US in a military conflict over the US, I really don't care."
I'm in that camp. China is going to be much stronger eventually than the old Soviet Union. Why? Because there commies are more clever than the ole USSR commies.
The Chinese economy is booming, around 10% growth for several years now and they have just begun to grow with a very small middle class. Wait until they get bigger...they have now surpassed Germany in GDP and they will overtake Japan in a few more years. I'm 46 and I expect they will overtake the US before I die.
I'm much more conerned with the slow growth of the US vs our military might. Nobody will be hitting the beaches at Malibu any time soon. But our economy has lost its manufacturing base relative to other countries. China will be a WTO force and already is. America will have to take it's lumps and revitalize itself. (Of course this is almost impossible with the liberal Democrats tearing the country down at every opportunity.)
Walk around and check where things in your house were made. I was surprised by a few labels I had assumed were made in the US, including a couple of Winchester and Gerber knives--yep, made in China.
If we cannot produce what we need there will be no protracted conflict.
Only the depletion of what little on time inventory is out there and the siege.
If we ever go to war with them we had better win it fast.
