This sailor had better start giving unmistakable signs that things that she's saying are being said under duress. I don't know if Royal Navy recruits are given training in this but if I know of some ways to do it (having seen examples from North Vietnamese propaganda films) she should know some.

This sailor had better start giving unmistakable signs that things that she's saying are being said under duress. But if she's not writing the letters, how can she do that?

The footage I've seen left me with an odd feeling about the way they're all looking down, as if whoever made the films had instructed them to avert their eyes.

Nothing she says or writes in captivity matters and should be held against her.
When she gets out she can confirm/deny. Until then she needs to just hang on the best she can without thinking (or her family thinking) civilians like us are judging her based on 10 seconds of video or a letter she is forced to write.
And yes, I agree, there are POWs who stand tall and get signals out.

Unfortunately, in todays world, the instant she used any of the Standard Signs of Duress - or addressed her letter to her boyfriend (A C Doyle for example) - the news and the BBC would trumpet it all over the newscasts.
And then her life would be forfeit. Ah, for the days when a government and the press gave a damn about the fighting man (or woman).

The fact that she's surrounded by a bunch of goons with guns and knives who won't let her go home is one clue that she's under duress.
