New letter released in hostage crisis

New Iran Captive Letter Updated: 18:56, Thursday March 29, 2007

Iran has published another letter allegedly written by Leading Seaman Faye Turney in which she supposedly calls for British forces to withdraw from Iraq.

The letter also asks the British Government why it allowed the British captives to stray into Iranian waters.

And it goes on to say the group is being treated well by the Iranians.

Analysts immediately doubted the validity of the letter, saying the wording was not likely to have been thought up by the 26-year-old sailor.

The letter coincided with the release of new footage of the 15 Royal Navy sailors and Royal Marines being seized by Iranian gunboats in the Gulf.

In the video clips, gunshots are heard and a helicopter is shown hovering above inflatable boats in choppy seas.

Iranian boat (R) approaching a Royal Navy vessel Vessels close in on Royal Navy boats then the 15 captured Britons are shown seated in an Iranian gunboat.

The arrest footage was preceded by a senior Iranian officer using maps to explain how the Britons had "crossed into Iranian territory".

Iranian TV had previously shown video footage of the detainees eating and talking.

That broadcast featured an interview with L/S Turney in which she confessed - probably under duress - that the Britons had been at fault.

Prime Minister Tony Blair said it was a "disgrace" the way L/STurney, a 25-year-old mother of a three-year-old girl, was shown on TV.

"We are going to have to step up pressure not just with them in the UN and the European Union, but see what further measures are necessary to get them to understand it's not merely wrong but only going to result in further tension," he added.

Iran is probably wondering just WHAT they have to do to provoke a REAL response from the infidels.

Do the British maintain an embassy in Tehran? If so, is it still open?

If so, the British might want to think about recalling their ambassador and staff to London for consultations.

We've been to that particular party, and didn't have a very good time. I'd hate to see the Brits have to endure the experience we had in '79-80.

I haven't enlisted in the military yet. I'm just saying what I would do if ROE dictated defense instead of submission.

There is a French Carrier Group that came in with the Stennis Carrier Group.

Turkey has a backchannel to Tehran. This will become a NATO event before long.

Unfortunately, in todays world, the instant she used any of the Standard Signs of Duress - or addressed her letter to her boyfriend (A C Doyle for example) - the news and the BBC would trumpet it all over the newscasts.

And then her life would be forfeit. Ah, for the days when a government and the press gave a damn about the fighting man (or woman).

I'm going to put this as diplomatically as possible.

When you've been there and seen the elephant, THEN talk about it. Until then you have no idea what you are talking about. Second guessing veterans is for damned democrats and that's not you since you are here.

Everyone is different.

I'm embarrassed I had to google Stennis! If the French had a carrier there too, that explains why they called the [French] ambassador [to Iran.] It had nothing to do with the 15, is that right?

"I've read somewhere that France is now on board."

Yeah, but on whose side?

Glory be to the Bomb and to the Holy Fallout.
As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end.

Amen.

My dear everlasting bomb come down among us, to make heaven under earth like the hour of darkness.

Oh, Holy instrument of Allah, Grant us thy truth.
The truth to define in us.
Feel that truth and through that flicker.

Let everyone go to his private shelter. Empty the streets. There to find the city of the dead.

Let the blessing of the Bomb Almighty and the fellowship of the Holy Fallout descend on us all, this day and forever more.

-Glory be to the Bomb

For God's sake STOP talking! Bomb the crap out of these places so these animals know we still have some men with stones who will let them know they are nothing compared to the mite of the U.S. & the Brits. These punks don't respond to talk they know we have all become so P.C. and weak they have the upper hand.

E-2C 3, 4F, Aeronavale, RN Charles de Gaulle

The French had an exercise planned in the area for a while....but it does seem like a "coincidence" that a carrier that USN planes can operate off magically appears in the area during "tense times."

The fact that she's surrounded by a bunch of goons with guns and knives who won't let her go home is one clue that she's under duress.

Waiting for the imanutjob to open his mail soon and find a letter from the UK:

'Dear Imanutjob;

Congratulations! You said the magic word!

The noise you hear outside your window as you read this are our commandos repelling from your roof who will be flying you to your new home in 60 seconds. Grab your tooth brush!

Happy trails,

Tony

The letter talks about "Representatives of the House of Commons". "Representatives" isn't a word a Brit would usually use in this context - it sounds completely odd. We talk about "Members" or "politicians" but "representatives" sounds like a foreigner getting confused with the UK and US political systems.
