Rudolph W. Giuliani accepted the endorsement of Steve Forbes yesterday and embraced Mr. Forbes’s signature issue, saying he liked the idea of a flat tax — something Mr. Giuliani denounced when Mr. Forbes was running for president.
If there were no federal income tax, “maybe I’d suggest not doing it at all, but if we were going to do it, a flat tax would make a lot of sense,” Mr. Giuliani, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, said yesterday, standing beside Mr. Forbes at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square in New York. But he said it was not clear whether dissolving the current system, so ingrained in the economy, would be feasible.
These days, Mr. Giuliani calls himself an advocate of supply-side economics and tells audiences that he cut taxes and restrained spending as mayor. He said several times yesterday that the federal tax code should be vastly simpler.
“The thing I like about Rudy Giuliani is that in New York City he demonstrated he was willing to try big things,” Mr. Forbes said. In a Giuliani presidency, he predicted, “we’ll have an assault” on the federal tax code.

VALUE ADDED TAX = taxing something so many times the count is lost by the time that item gets to the consumer.. The taxes exceed the price of the item..

Maybe it's so easy for the MSM to make Rudy look bad to conservatives because RUDY'S A RINO. Maybe Hillary's afraid of Rudy because he'll TAKE THE LEFT AWAY FROM HER. Maybe I'm wasting my time talking to someone who's obviously already mainlining the Radical Rudy flavor KoolAid.

He sure did, but I wouldn't be surprised if McCain drops out before New Hampshire. His campaign is cratering. Also, it's common to bring someone in from the rival's camp to increase the appeal to the party (Reagan/Bush, for instance).

These are a few of the tangible results Giuliani accomplished as mayor."
Guys, c'mon. This is pure election-year politics talking here. What are the odds of a flat-tax passing Congress? Rudy has ZERO credibility. I mean, we're talking about a presidential candidate who supports abortion right up until birth. What makes you think he'll be credible on the other issues as well?
Well, then the idea becomes to swamp the base. Eminently doable, and high time to do it, too, as every "base' - be it DU, sharptonite, or GOP's - is a gross embarrassment.

Arizona senator John McCain is second with 22 per cent, followed by actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson with 12 per cent, and former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich with eight per cent.
