You may be right, but their power is not what it used to be. With every passing year, their influence wanes as more people become dependent on the Internet for their information. The Left is well represented there, both the overtly Marxist and Green groups, as well as the liberal establishment. However, the opposition, whether neo-conservative, libertarian, paleo-conservative, and so forth, are out there as well. This gives me hope.

It seems that the powers that be decided to front load the primaries so that the major party nominees can capture the nomination by February 2008. However, their decision may backfire, for it will allow other groups more time to organize and raise funds for a Presidential race on a third party ticket. If Giuliani captures the GOP nomination, there will be a groundswell among gun owners, conservative Christians, and libertarians to seek an alternative.
