Two Vietnam combat veterans teamed up Wednesday to urge new limits on U.S. troop deployments to Iraq and to require that soldiers have proper training and equipment when sent into battle.
Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., said the Iraq war is putting at risk the all-volunteer force that took nearly 30 years to build up after "the disaster of Vietnam."
"We are abusing our all-voluntary force in a dangerous and irresponsible way," Hagel said. "We are abusing our people. We are abusing their families.

have to pry them apart with a crowbar...
I saw on C-Span where Reid paraded Hagel and Webb before the Senate and praised them as combat heroes now that they both oppose the war against Iraq.
Two observations. First, Hagel was invested in an American defeat even before Saddam's statue was toppled. He's also implied that Bush should be impeached. I don't know whether he's a victim of permanent shell shock from Viet Nam or is just plain stupid. Webb is a former Reaganite who's just become a political hack for Democrats and used the unpopularity of the war to grab power.
But the main thing is that the Dems parade them both because they want to show that they too can put combat veterans on display to perpetuate the illusion that they too are strong on national defense. And care about the armed forces! If people fall for that crock we deserve what we get!
Hagel's comments are about as coherent as Webb's on the loaded gun story.
So we built up this army and we had better not use it.
So there were three cars and that's how a gun I didn't give to my aide happened to be found by security.
They have to be smoking something funny in D.C.
Why doesn't this guy go over and run in the Democratic primary?
He'd probably beat all their other candidates.
Nebraska should be ashamed of itself for this Hagel. What bunch of pin-headed nitwits voted for such a putz?
This guy proved to be a WACK-JOB from the get-go. That stupid Macacca thing made this nut our Senator. Nothing else.
The VA/GOP let us down.
BIG TIME!
Post #12 you totally nailed it.
The Ku Klux Klan showed up in the Democrat column this time. Webb knows he owes his victory to the brownshirts. Not surprising at all to see him trying to sneak guns and ammo into the Capitol ~ not surprising to see his fascist friend Hagel involved in the conspiracy against the Republic.
It was enough to shift the Ku Klux Klan vote into the Dem column ~ just like the old days.
SkepticalObserver - James Webb Terrorized Black Americans
Duh. Think about that.. lets say something like this was in some GOP candidate's background .. They would be toast! But Jim Webb got a big WET KISS pass from the MSM and the Black Community.
Lets say the Press cared. Do you think they could find Webb's classmates and ask them, did you do this? No. Thats too much trouble.
But the Press did a great job of uncovering the fact that George Allen's mother is a converted Jew who escaped the Holocaust by professing to be a Christian!!! That was a proud moment for the Forth Estate.
The GOP let the whole nation down.
For CRYIN' out loud!
Hagel is getting ready to jump sides, IMO.
ping
Is this the Bill that Hagel was all for but couldn't talk about because he didn't know what it said ???
I wish it was different.
Don't get me started. Did you read Dr. Dobson's pronouncement that Fred Thompson isn't Christian enough to be President. That made me sick. So, not just Brownshirts.
But as to Ku Klux Klan showing up as Democrats. DUH. The KKK HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DEMOCRATS!!! Ask Senator Byrd. Remember the term Copperhead? They were the Northern "Peace" (Surrender) Democrats who ran McClelland against Lincoln to sue for peace in the Civil War.
In the South, Conservative Democrats (The Southern analog of the Copperheads) were the foundation of the KKK. These people were completely invested in Racism. The Democrat party and this strain of rabid Racism is almost as old as the party.
When Kennedy imposed desegregation on the South, some conservatives who were upset about states rights left to join the Republican Party. This shift was interpreted by some as the Republican Party taking on the racism of the South in the person of folks like Jessie Helms and Strom Thurmond. But in fact, the Republican party inherited only part of the southern conservative philosophy (self-determination and strict constructionism) that these folks felt passionately about and the Democrats kept the racism.
The Republican party formed almost exclusively to advance the Abolitionist (the inherent rights of every human) and conservative (pro-business, free market) philosophy that was espoused by folks like William Wilberforce in England. President Eisenhower was the first to enforce desegregation and Republicans were the force behind all of the Civil Rights legislation over the objections of the Democrats.
Anyone who doesn't understand this need only look at a picture of the Clinton cabinet.
Yes...this is the one.
Basically...it is the Murtha bill of the Senate, from what I heard Hagel say on the Senate floor today.
Go home, Hagel!
Democrats are nearly the definition of the old Brown-shirts now a days.
So its no surprise that we find thugs running around serving these folks. Breaking into offices, slashing tires, threatening people's lives. The more things change the more they stay the same.
Which makes it all so odd who keeps helping them. But, there are reasons. Like the Republican's behavior before and during WWII which was abysmal (Isolationism and Appeasement) This lead to 50 years of domination of the Congress by the Democrats.
But, Democrats are making this same mistake again, repeating the "glory" of Vietnam they think, but instead reaping the whirlwind of the being the "Anti-American" party in the fullness of time. Unless Big Sister wins, and ends this messy freedom stuff.
