While I currently support Rudy, I'd have no problem if Thompson won the nom and I'd happily vote for him in the general.

That said, to compare Thompson and Reagan isn't exactly fair.

Reagan was President of SAG

Reagan, since the GE days in the late 50s and really picking up steam with "The Speech" for Goldwater in 1964 was arguably the national spokesman for conservatism for the better part of two decades

Reagan was a two term Governor of the largest state in the Union, population and economy wise.

Reagan had already ran in 1968 and in 1976 when he came within a hair of taking down Ford.

Thompson has no real executive experience of any kind, spent 8 years in the Senate during which time he never really led any key committees or accomplished any signature legislative feats to speak of. I don't recall him being described as any leader in the conservative movement from 1994-2002.

He left the Senate in 2002 and seemed quite happy in his current gig until conservative dissatisfaction is causing him to reconsider.

Thompson has never ran for national office before.

He seems to be a guy that people are latching on to because they're not happy with the current field, more than they are happy with him.

That said, with Thompson considering getting in, it appears that Rudy may have accomplished the goal of sinking the USS McCain. All Freepers should probably recognize that if it wasn;t for Rudy and his numbers the last few months, McCain would be at 40% or higher and would have the inevitablity thing that Hillary has. Rudy took that away from him and if nothing else, Rudy's candidacy finished off McCain and for that he deserves credit.

You can't compare ANYONE to Ronladus Magnus. I was merely telling him that you can't discount someone just because they have one type of career. I am a computer tech business owner and I think I would be a better Prez than a lot of the people running this time.

John Kennedy ( I think ) was only a one term senator, but, with the help of his families money and name he got to be President.
John Kennedy never had any kind of executive experience either.

Hillary still has 900+ FBI Fil
es, and she's still a Senator. RIght? The FBI is showing no interrest in pursueing her. Right? The FBI is openly corrupt then. Right? Mr. Thompson and others can hammer on this incessantly. Right? They should and any that don't are equaly as corrupt. Right?

LOL, that almost sounds like Rudy gets the credit for Fred shaking things up.

It was Rudy who dropped 13 points in the Gallup poll, not McCain, when Fred dropped the hint of running. If you look at their graph of the two polling over the past few months, you'll see McCain fairly steady up to now---dipped a little, now up a little---but Rudy soared to a high in early March and then started sliding badly.

Rudy's candidacy finished off McCain and for that he deserves credit.

Can't agree with you there! If it hadn't been Rudy, someone else would have finished off McCain, whose own negatives are what truly finish him off.

Here's the graph from galluppoll.com, does it look like Rudy's candidacy finished off McCain's? In 1929, a Wall Street tycoon finished off Grandpa that way; jumped out a window and fell right on his pushcart.
