It does not matter whether he sinned thereafter, as it does not matter to my being worthy of salvation through Christ.

So from what you've said, an ax murderer who accepts Christ as his personal savior is free to continue chopping up babies? He has a get out of Hell free card, no matter how foul a life he leads after his salvation?

I find that incompatible with anything I recognize as moral.

Not at all.

If one truly chooses to accept Salvation through Christ...they also choose to fight the war between good and evil in their hearts.....Accepting Christ means also rejecting sin...and attempting to live a moral life....It is much more than just saying "I am a Christian"...

As I stated, some will be more successful than others in that battle....people are drawn to sin for many reasons....most related to personal selfishness and the desire to put oneself above others...to a sane person these rationals can be confronted and dealt with to some degree....

However, there are persons among us who are mentally challenged either due to a birth defect or cruelty put upon them in their formative years....they are much mored challenged in their attempt to fight the good fight...

In both scenarios, after one has accepted Christ, it is a life changing experience....many call it being born again....In that transformation, through faith in Christ, the desire to right ones wrongs and live a better life take hold. It is not a matter of trying to earn Salvation at that point....it is a desire to live in Christ....

The battle being waged may not be perceived by others, because we will continue to sin....but now we are truly remorseful and humbly beseech the Lord to forgive us....and help guide us in our personal battle....it is in our heart and minds constantly that we are not worthy of his forgiveness but given it freely by the grace of God....

Many will be more successful than others in this battle....some will fail miserably...but that does not mean they are not forgiven....the fight a mentally challenged person puts up to prevent his sinful nature from taking hold may be far greater than a sane person's....However, when judged by man's standards he may have failed miserably....but in the Lord's view he has given more than one who appeared to be more rightous...

In this world we judge people by their actions toward others....That is our law, not God's...What we see as obvious indiscretions, based upon our laws, may not always be consistent with how God perceives it....

In short, being a Christian, and accepting Salvation through Christ, does not preclude us from sin....it only makes us more aware of our nature and more humble in our desire to be forgiven and live a more moral life....

We are saved by Grace alone, our actions will neither save us or condemn us, our faith, our acceptance of Christ's salvation, our real desire to be forgiven and become sons of God, will triumph over the grave....
