Regardless of party this very well could be an honest mistake. If anything this is a Second Ammendment issue and the focus should be on the infringment of it. Putting the guy in jail for a night is pretty severe.

A mistake is misplacing your keys. Not your handgun.

There really is no other logical or plausible explanation. Nobody is going to knowingly run a bag with a gun in it through the X-Ray machine at the Capitol building.

To me, all it comes down to is the question to whether Webb was illegally possessing a gun in DC.

Not in D.C. besides you cannot carry a gun into any federal building. The law is very clear on this point.

If you were approaching a metal detector with a bag with a loaded gun and two extra loaded magazines, you think it just might slip your mind? Second Amendment issues aside, this is a highly suspicious and peculiar event which will no doubt be frantically covered up.

I disagree. It is illegal to carry a firearm into the Congress - as it should be - and he was arrested and not afforded special treatment which is proper. Having said that I don't know why he wasn't able to post bail and get out.

Well then, why doesn't the esteemed Senator from Virginia admit it was a "mistake" that he gave the guy the gun? You know, according to the Rats, the problem with President Bush is that he doesn't admit mistakes. Come on Webb, take the high road like a good DemocRat. Don't be a Clinton and let the little guy take the fall.
