Lots of issues with being clear.
Liver cancer starts in the liver. This means, specifically, that liver CELLS became cancerous. The cells stopped behaving properly and started growing in uncontrolled fashion.
Metastasized colon cancer in the liver is COLON CELLS that became cancerous, in the colon, and travelled to the liver where they lodged, induced the body to grow blood vessels to provide them a blood/nutrient supply, and began to grow in uncontrolled fashion there.
One of the most recent methods of attacking cancer is to try to stop the body from forming those blood vessels. It is called anti angiogenesis. There is some progress on this.
FOX has Dr. Manny on discussing this again- he is fairly positive..
There will be an oncologist on shortly to discuss.
President on discussing this now- offering prayers..
Hepatic Artery Embolization is a promising new therapy for cancers in the liver wherein an IV is inserted directly into the hepatic artery and injects microscopic "balls" that block the flow of blood into the microvessels that grow in response to angiogenic stimulants secreted from the tumor. Even better is when these are coated with radioactive material which will actively kill the tumor cells as well as strangling their blood flow. This technique is effective because hepatic tumors generally stick close to this. Whether this treatment is confined to primary liver cancer or applicable in metastatic cases like this one I do not know.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Tony, his family, and his friends.
