Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton on Monday snapped up a key political endorsement in the crucial early-voting state of Iowa...
Former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack and his wife Christine signed up to work for the New York senator, adding their state-wide political network to her cause ahead of January's Iowa caucuses, the first party nominating contest.
... He said Clinton could "begin from the very first day as president to repair the tarnished image the United States has had during the (George W) Bush administration".
Narrow lead
The announcement will help Clinton - already with a narrow lead in the state according to a new poll - reach into every corner of Iowa, which demands candidates pursue an intense, often one-on-one, engagement with voters.
It may also be seen as a blow to senator Barack Obama who has emerged as Clinton's closest nationwide rival for the Democratic nomination.
The other top-tier Democratic candidate John Edwards - who last week said his campaign would go on despite his wife Elizabeth's cancer relapse - has blitzed the state over the last two years and has also built up a formidable Iowa network.
In the latest American Research Group poll, Clinton had edged ahead of Edwards, winning the support of 34% of likely Democratic caucus goers.
Former vice-presidential nominee Edwards had 33%.
Obama, expected to return to Iowa this weekend, had only 16%.

Yes, key word "former governor". Can we say "deal"? She beats edwards in caucus, smears obama in cash - hello algore!
"Vlasic, I mean Vilsac is a "key endorsement"? How can a complete non-entity be veiwed as "key"?"
You don't think Mrs Bill got took on this deal do you? O-o-o-o that would make her mad! Mrs Bill, the Shrill!
Meanwhile in Iowa ..Ball-sac's replacement is keeping up the tradition of hammering through the gay agenda.
An unfortunate choice of words, but maybe fitting................
Vilsack is a crucial endorsement??? Please.
Maybe Hillary will have spent most of this money before next year trying to defend herself. Most people are foolish enough to vote for her. She will have all of the teachers and union thugs voting for her but I will bet she will not have the backing of the medical profession.
Yeah, he's a real pickle alright. Is that sweet or dill?
The leftmost fringe 'Rats are deluding themselves when they pretend there's any alternative to Hillary. She owns the party apparatus. She rolls forward remorselessly, crushing all in her path. Too bad for the 'Rats she is so hated generally.

Hillary's move center is calculated for the General. She has not forgotten her loss of influence in her hubby's first term because she hit the ground with nationalized medicine and gays in the military. Being spanked & put in the corner while algore got to parade was humiliating. By the time she was allowed to shine, Paula & Monica stole the limelight - except when she lost it a couple of times.
She has to gather herself, think strategic, let her goons do her dirty work, remain the ONLY sophisticated experienced centrist among the Dems - THEN she can come out and PLAY. She is a spoiled brat from a wealthy Chicago Republican family, who rebelled in the 60's and never got over it. She has never connected the dots that wealth formation comes from capital accumulation & investment (not taxation)because she always got hers on the cheap.
Hey, thanks for that!
I always wondered about this image and where exactly the shot was taken.
I'd like to stop in and eat there if I was ever in that area.
Hear, hear. - good post.
