How incredibly old does one have to be to ban teenagers from dancing? Or to applaud it?

Shoot me if I ever get that old.

I'm sure the kids will have 10 times as much fun doing other things than attending a dance where old people actively try to rip you apart from your dance partner.

ban on sexually suggestive dance moves prompted hundreds of teenagers to boycott a Hawaiian-themed party in their high school gymnasium

Who the heck cares? Let the little beggars stay home -- and save a few bucks of overtime for the school janitor to boot.

That "Backside in" part of the Hokey Pokey must give them fits.

. Wonder how many dance like that in front of their mothers?

Given the state of current society, some of the mothers would probably be out there leading the pack.

The school warned students who attended Friday's "Paradise Awaits" party they could be subject to random breath tests to check for alcohol.

That probably discouraged attendance more than any dance restrictions.

A couple of years ago my mom told me her parents were right after all - Elvis did cause the moral decline of society. LOL

"Dipping was a "near occasion of sin"! "

That's why Baptists won't have sex standing up. Someone might think they are dancing.

But, but, but, but......its only dancing.

What's wrong with parents allowing children to watch and then mimic the most vile and filthy perverts who simulate sex on television, internet, and movies?

Who could be so puritainical as to see something wrong or immoral about students or even hollywood perverts simulating sex...as long as you call it dancing, that makes it okay and anyone who disagrees must be in favor of repression. .../SARC

Apparently not that old, since I'm not. And I'm not a prude either. But if you've never seen it, we're talking about plain old dry humping to music here, not dancing. Adults want to do it, fine. It isn't for kids at a school sponsored function.

So funny. Kids were doing the 'back to front' dancing when I was in middle school - in the '70s. And a friend of mine in her 60s recalls the 'dirty dancing' type of dancing (yes, just like in the movie) when she lived in the city during her teen years. No 'nice' girl ever did the tango during the Edwardian period (and now it's considered classic ballroom dance!) The Charleston was outrageous. And matrons were positively shocked when waltzing came into vogue, as opposed to the minuet-type dance where there was space between the partners. Waltzing was waaay too..ahem..intimate and close. My goodness, the man HELD the woman in his arms! Their bodies..TOUCHED.

Ah me. I hope I'm never too old to dance. And dance like no one is watching. What is it my grandmother used to sing..? "What's the matter with kids today, why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way?"

These teenagers aren't being banned from dancing. They're being banned from simulating sex acts on the dance floor.

Perception only.... How is this enforced? Will teachers get between dancers and shove them apart because they didn't comply with state dictates on continence?

Perhaps they are learning more this way. Cheers to the boycott.

I love nostalgia, but you are right about how things really were in the past.

Not just with social standards, but everything- crime, decay, and poverty... The world had the very same problems and worse, despite our *feelings* that things were any better back then.

Still, those good memories live forever. (... personally, I only relate to the 1980s!)

Oh yeah, the '80s. My era too (lol). Then, we only had to listen to songs like 'Cocaine', 'Do You Wanna Touch Me (There?), 'Jamie's Got A Gun' and think about Jack and Diane behind the Tastee-Freeze. And grinding to FreeBird was required for teen couples. Granted that was, strictly speaking, from the '70s, but still classic. And AC/DC had their Big Balls....lol.

Those were such innocent times ;).
