Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani led off with his strongest card, his terrorism-fighting credentials, before touching on healthcare, immigration and energy policy in a speech to a welcoming crowd Saturday.
"Sept. 11, 2001, taught me and I believe it taught a lot of people, including President Bush that we have to remain on offense," Giuliani said. "That means that we have to use our military. We can't show weakness."
Giuliani seemed to hit all the right notes Saturday, getting applause when he criticized Democrats' stance on healthcare and advocated vouchers for schools.
On immigration, he told reporters he doesn't support amnesty for illegal immigrants, but he could support a guest worker program if there were adequate border security and tamper-proof ID cards. He said that even if illegal immigrants "can demonstrate that they are lawful, that they are paying taxes [and] that they'll pay penalties," they still shouldn't be put ahead of people who go through legal channels.
"And citizenship here, if it's earned, should be premised on being able to read and write English and understand American history, so we restore assimilation to the process of immigration," he said.
"Nothing will unite the Republicans more than a candidate who can beat Hillary Clinton," Curry said.

This has got to be intentional ignorance on your part. There's simply no other explanation.
I dont belive he is pro-abortion.
Remember, if it's pro-rudy, it's valid. No matter how many time it's posted.
If it's anti-rudy, it's spam, outdated, irrelevant, or just a vicious attack by right wing extremists who want hillary to win.
When did the GOP start adopting liberal tactics? Only when it became necessary to defend a liberal republican.
Hardly.
Dismissing a candidate's liberal positions for the sake of electability (which is up to debate), on the other hand, is intentional ignorance.
If a person is not pro-life, then they are pro-abortion. He has repeatedly stated that he believes that it should be the woman's choice. He has also said that he is "personally against" abortion, but every other liberal in the past 34 years has basically said the same thing.
"I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging the future but by the past." P. Henry.
"My positions on most things are the same as Mrs Clinton's" Rudy Guiliani 1997 NY Post interview.
If Thompson or Hunter is nominated, will you vote for them? Yes or No.

Rudy's Strong Pro-Abortion Stance
As these comments from a 1989 conversation with Phil Donahue show, Rudy Giuliani is staunchly in favor of abortion:
"I've said that I'll uphold a woman's right of choice, that I will fund abortion so that a poor woman is not deprived of a right that others can exercise, and that I would oppose going back to a day in which abortions were illegal.
I do that in spite of my own personal reservations. I have a daughter now; if a close relative or a daughter were pregnant, I would give my personal advice, my religious and moral views ...
Donahue: Which would be to continue the pregnancy.
Giuliani: Which would be that I would help her with taking care of the baby. But if the ultimate choice of the woman - my daughter or any other woman - would be that in this particular circumstance [if she had] to have an abortion, I'd support that. I'd give my daughter the money for it."
Worse yet, Giuliani even supports partial birth abortion:
"I'm pro-choice. I'm pro-gay rights,Giuliani said. He was then asked whether he supports a ban on what critics call partial-birth abortions. "No, I have not supported that, and I don't see my position on that changing," he responded." -- CNN.com, "Inside Politics" Dec 2, 1999
It's bad enough that Rudy is so adamantly pro-abortion, but consider what that could mean when it comes time to select Supreme Court Justices. Does the description of Giuliani that you've just read make you think he's going to select an originalist like Clarence Thomas, who would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade -- or does it make you think he would prefer justices like Sandra Day O'Connor and Anthony Kennedy who'd leave Roe v. Wade in place?
Rudy's abortion stance is bad news for conservatives who are pro-life or who are concerned about getting originalist judges on the Supreme Court.

I dont belive he is pro-abortion.
Even though reality says otherwise?
And if the only way they win is to become a hard left liberal, then they don't do you any good either.
Unlike Thompson, Rudy defied federal law and federal court orders to preserve NYC's sanctuary city policy. You can talk about Rudy's current positions all you want, but Rudy's past betrays his current stances. In far too many instances.
" He has repeatedly stated that he believes that it should be the woman's choice."
And so do a mjaority of women, conservative woman even. Even FR conservative women.
I am telling you, if you allow a woman to run on womans issues, you will lose and you will lose big.
I want it taken off the table. I feel that a candidate like Hunter or Thompson places it back on the table and puts the issue back in play and the cause is exploited for the sake of winning the election, and ultimately it underminds the cause.
"And if the only way they win is to become a hard left liberal, then"
Rudy is not anywhere near a hard left liberal and I dont have any fear of him turning into one. I really dont.
I think in order for the GOP to win in 08 they need to put up an Arnold type candidate. I know thats unpopular around here. But that is the tide as I see it.
Please respect the Moderators wishes and don't post to me.
Unless it's to apologize.
Then keep my name off your lips.
Different viewpoints entirely. Look at the picture in post 367 and tell me that is a conservative photo-op.
He doesn't have to turn into one. He already is.
His toughness on crime and fiscal conservatism (at least early on; he apparently become quite a spender in the final years of his Mayoral term) are his only bright spots. Doesn't excuse everything else.
I think in order for the GOP to win in 08 they need to put up an Arnold type candidate.
Victory, perhaps...but at what cost?
You don't want Prez Hillary,do you?
(sarcasm)
If a conservative woman says she is pro abortion she is not a conservative, she may be a Republican with liberal leaning. I think Hillary only knows what liberal women like. Many women despise her. I know lib women that can't stand her.
