The 'religious' Left has taken over my church. The United Methodist Church is now more political than religious. From the top on down. I miss the Methodism of my childhood. I don't expect to hear my politics in church and I certainly don't want to hear left-wing politics coming from the pulpit.

Amen to all you said. Won't even set foot in a Methodist establishment for what they have become.

Taking over the churches was part of the Soviet strategy for defeating the United States. (So was taking over one or more of the political parties). Like an ant nest without a queen the stinging little worker ants planted by the Soviets continue to bite at America long after the queen has died.

At least your eyes are open for what your church is and I feel bad for the ones who don't.

I am truly afraid that the United Methodist Church will drive me away at one point. When I saw the latest official position of the General Board on Community and Society on the War in Iraq...I hit the ceiling.

The UMC is also on the wrong side of the illegal immigration issue for my taste. Sure I get the idea of helping the weak and the poor, but there has to be a limit-- like lawbreaking.

I grew up as a Methodist and am now seventy years old. The Methodism of old is not the Methodism of today.

Something happened in the early sixties that caused the Methodist Religion to forever depart from Christianity. It, in my mind, was the advent of Methodism departing from Methodism and becoming "United Methodism" that told the tale. Along with that was an embracing of the World Council of Churches - a decidedly communistic organization. I have relatives who still embrace the "Methodist" religion and they do so from an unbelievable platform of ignorance in what has been done to their religion. I believe that we owe a debt of honesty to ourselves in whatever religion we choose to participate. In my opinion, people of the Methodist religion cannot honor that debt.

And yet the laity of the Methodist Church is still fairly conservative at it's base

http://www.ird-renew.org/site/apps/nl/content2.asp?c=fvKVLfMVIsG&b=391221&ct=3661225

At UMAction's request, Ellison Research extracted the United Methodist responses. Over two-fifths (42.1 percent) of United Methodist laity in the survey self-identify as politically conservative to some degree, nearly another half (47.9 percent) place themselves in the center of the political spectrum, while only the remaining one-tenth self-identify as politically liberal to any degree.

The United Methodist clergy were close to being evenly divided between one-third conservative, one-third moderate, and one-third liberal.

The NCC is a leftist group, that does not represent the membership of the various denominations.

The National Council of Churches has always been a Communist anti-American organization. Nothing has changed except they are now more in line with the ACLU and other pro terrorist groups.

Me either .. I left them over 20 years ago. My sister is still there and more liberal than I knew. She will no longer speak to me "because you're a Republican".

Now .. how stupid is that ..??

She has a new boyfriend and they are buying a house in MEXICO! I think this is a terrible mistake .. but since she won't speak to me .. I really fear for her safety.

Tragically, the laity's conservatism is meaningless. As long as they financially support the church they are supporting worldwide liberalism. This is one of those situations where they really need to follow where their money (donations) is going.

Liberal churches' heirarchies care not a fig about their congregations. All they care about is keeping the cash cow placid enough to continue giving milk.

1 Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

There are only two things that can happen when sin and the Bible clash: either sin will change the Bible, or the Bible will change the sin.

When Barack and Hillary say homosexuality is not immoral, they’re telling you volumes.

When the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Episcopal Church, and the United Church of Christ are all proud members of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (http://www.rcrc.org), they’re shouting.

Today, the strongest indicators of where a church is theologically, politically, socially, and thereby economically, is their view of homosexuality and abortion. If they are sins, you’re likely looking at a healthy, Bible-believing church. If they are not a sin, you’re looking at a political group fronting as a church.

The Religious Left is far more “Left” than “religious” – they may look like a church on the outside, but on the inside, they’re a political organization advancing a leftist social agenda. And now, there’s hard evidence to back it up.
