Just noticed (again on the bottom photo) the people in the foreground facing toward the protesters are plainly standing on a sidewalk, but the road the protesters are marching on has paint lines and arrows that go right up to the sidewalk people. One of the arrows points right through the crowd! AND notice the people on the sidewalk appear slightly smaller than the front line of protesters; at that angle, they should be larger.

That is not a sidewalk, but rather a concrete traffic island at the traffic circle. We were there, and can vouch for the accuracy of the AP photo. You can see it and the no u-turn sign in this photo.
