Philanthropic Donations Come From Your Heart, but Where Do They End Up? (Televangelist Scams)

The popular Kenneth Copeland of Kenneth Copeland Ministries lives in a large mansion in Texas. He recently asked his audience to help him spread the gospel by giving him $20 million to buy a new jet. Copeland promised that the plane "will never, ever be used as long as it is in our care, for anything other than what is becoming to you, Lord Jesus."

"... control God ..."

I just knew you would misinterpret what I said.

However, you can argue with God about it .. HE SAID - you reap what you sow!

You said it, not me. You folks have God under your thumb. You give a guy with a jet some money and God has to bless you.

It sounds to me like God isn't blessing you, you are blessing yourself. God is just the cashier.

If Copeland and Crouch were really being blessed by God, they wouldn't ask people for money. That would show unbelief in God's ability to provide if they relied on people for money.

You signed up today to post something from ABC News?

Are we only to believe what we want to believe from the DBM/ MSM..?? Known bash'ers of Christians. Known liars, fabricators, twister's of truth.

The article smacks of a dividing, envious, holier-than-thou drive-by hit-piece.

At what point in time will ABC look into the Mormon church and it's legacy wealth? At what point will they "expose" Scientology?

When will they "try" the Rev. Al Sharpton, Calipso Louie, and Je$$e Jack$on?

I could care less how much Kenneth Copeland spends, receives, gives away, tithes, etc...etc......if someone happens to think it's good "ground" what do you care? I think the Copelands are Christians...and I suppose they witness to more people in a week....than you and I do in 5 years. Is it or is that NOT the "Great Commission"?

If I want to horde my money, my time, my advice, my love....that's really none of your business either. And I couldn't care a wit what you do with yours.

Color me a bit wary of your signing up TODAY to post this by the very network ( ABC ) this site generally views with a VERY jaundiced eye.

Okay...rant off.

God can't be bribed. And He doesn't need a jet.

Don't like to have your opinions challenged or engaged in a spirited debate? Then don’t read my posts or anyone else’s who disagrees with you.

And I’ll stop being condescending when you do. Deal? And Happy Bunny and I say; Have A Nice Day!

“WHAT ..?? I've reduced you to pictures of bunnies!! I'm so sorry .. LOL!!

Yes. You have reduced me to pictures of bunnies and you should be very sorry. Your incoherent rants and over use of Cap lock has brought me to this pitiful state. LOL!

So here is another…enjoy!

Seriously, if you really believe that your God will shower you with money, mansions and private jets and other material goods, then let’s just say I’m sorry for you and I’m glad I don’t believe in the same God you do. And I don’t believe in your God. It is irrational so called Christians like you who gave me the impetus to become a free thinker and unshackle myself from the chains of false prophets and false and irrational religious beliefs.

If I am not mistaken some guy named Jesus who you claim as your savior, drove the money lenders out of some temple some two thousand years ago and preached a lesson about materialism and that not being the path to salvation. Perhaps you and Joyce might want to read up on the teachings of him who you proclaim as your savior and not twist his teachings into a ponzi scam for your own profit and material comforts.

Unlike you and Joyce Myers, I believe true blessings are not found in material things. True blessings are the love of my family and friends and complete strangers and my love for them, in doing good things for others even at my own personal physical or financial peril because it’s the right thing to do not because I’ll get some shiny bling bling in return, seeing the good in other people no matter who they are and what they believe and leading by example and certainly not begging for money so I can travel in a privet jet and vacation in exotic places.

I don’t like talking about it but I’ve donated my time going into neighborhoods where even the police don’t like to venture into to help others in need. I don’t preach, I just help where I can and I believe that deeds are stronger than words.

If you believe otherwise, that is your right and more power to you if that brings you peace and serenity and closer to the God of your understanding. I however believe in something very different.

I'm not upset at you in the least. Are you upset with me? Do you not have a sense of humor?

I value that you have a point of view and offer that I have another.

I'd like to engage with you in a meaningful discussion of the topic. Are you up for that?

I believe the original post had to do with Kenneth Copeland of Kenneth Copeland Ministries asking his audience to help him spread the gospel by giving him $20 million to buy a new jet. Copeland promised that the plane "will never, ever be used as long as it is in our care, for anything other than what is becoming to you, Lord Jesus."

I believe you came to his defense and said you also defend Joyce Myers.

I submit they are of the same mold of most of all the other televangelists in that they produce nothing more than infomercials shilling for money that, and while some of the proceeds may go to ministries and charitable causes, too much of it goes to providing themselves with a lavish lifestyle not in keeping with what I understand to be in keeping with the teachings of their proclaimed religion.

My question to you is of all the dollars donated to Kenneth Copeland Ministries or Joyce Myers, how much of every dollar goes to real ministry and charity and how much goes to producing their TV show and other overhead expenses and how much of that overhead pays for the Copeland’s or Myer’s expenses such as homes, luxury cars, jets, etc.? Aside from spreading the word (and asking for money from viewers) through the TV shows, just what does Kenneth Copeland Ministries or Joyce Myers do? Do they actually run any churches, schools, provide food and shelter to the needy?

If I donate one dollar how is that dollar spent?

yes, I agree the information is three years out of date, but seriously, I don't think any of these people have changed their stripes in 3 years. Call me psychic, once they get rolling like this with multimillion dollar homes, and private jets, they're not going to switch to sackcloth. That would require a change of heart and a relationship with Jesus, which is not what these people have. Sad but true. There is no greater sin than misrepresenting God when youc all yourslef a believer. It's what got Moses killed, and his offense was NOWHERE this serious. moses was a fine man.

"Because sowing seed is a principle in the Bible that most people have chosen to forget. GOD always says, if you, then I. If you will give your money in support of another man's ministry, GOD will reward you. "

That would be a true statement if God had anything to do with these people. The Bible teaches that if a man doesn't work, then he shouldn't eat. There is no room for freeloaders in God's plan.

"Paul said, "... everything is dung in comparison to what I have received in CHRIST". Paul's lifestyle was modest because he felt called to live that way. Paul never demanded that people live as he did or else they could not claim holiness or salvation, and God doesn't demand that of anyone either."

Paul lived and led people they way Lord Jesus Himself did-- they led by example. They showed people how to live by actually living that way.

When Lord Jesus died, he had his robe, and that was it. When He wanted to teach people about paying their taxes, He said- "Show me a penny..." He didn't even carry a penny with him, and had to borrow one for His lesson.

That's the kind of man I want to be like. That's the type of man I want to follow, a man who is so close to God, that he doesn't value the things of the world. I don't want to follow a man or woman who wears $1000 suits paid for by old ladies on social security, or drive BMW's paid for by someone who had good intentions, in the name of God. Whenever God's name comes into the mix, you have to hold yourself to a higher standard, and you have to sacrifice and give no one the opportunity to question your motives. These people put wealth first, not Lord Jesus.

Seriously, have you looked at the set for TBN lately, with it's gold thrones and art and thick carpet and so forth? The alligator skin boots and jewelry and so forth? What are they teaching people to value? Jesus? Or wealth?

I'm not smearing Christians- far from it, it is they who smear and malign the good name of Christ. Jesus spoke of men and women like this when He said they would call Him- "Lord, Lord", but He will reply "away with you- I never knew you." They aren't His to begin with. Jesus said if you want to be great in heaven, you must be least among men. Are they least among us? No, they are great. Jesus is no liar. What will be their lot and their judgment?

The Crouches have a good name? LOL

I have seen Paul and Co. beg for money, telling folks watching at home that "even if you can't afford $20 or 15$ send it anyway, find a way!"

These con men beg people that need that $20 to buy groceries to feed their families or help pay the utilities. Poor people, not welfare abusers but actual poor people that have no income to spare. Disgusting.

Also, where in the Bible does it ever talk about "seed money" or explain that sowing seed equates to sending money? I have not read the Bible cover to cover so I may have missed it. But, the parts I have read equate "sowing a seed" to just talking to someone about God or proselytizing.

The parable of the sower explained:

19When any one heareth the Word of the Kingdom and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he that received seed by the wayside.

20But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the Word and at once with joy receiveth it;

21yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while. For when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the Word, by and by he loses faith.

22He also that received the seed among the thorns is he that heareth the Word; and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the Word, and he becometh unfruitful.

23But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the Word and understandeth it; who also beareth fruit and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty."

Seed=planting a seed of a thought about God in someone's mind and heart. Seed does not=money.

I think mistrust comes when preachers act like idiots on tv, stamping and shouting and threatening and shaking fists. Makes one wonder who these people are who sit and take being treated that way. Gloria Copeland is lovely. I can be open to her teachings because she behaves like a perfect lady. The shouters turn me very off.

Safe to say your not a big fan of Rod Parsley then.

Now .. can any of you self-righteous and holier than thou people [and you know who you are] tell me where you're going to get the MONEY to obey that command ..??

Before you can sow a seed of faith .. sometimes it requires you to sow a seed of SUBSTANCE - meaning food and clothing and a clean bed to sleep in.

You cannot help people in need if you are in need of help!

I rest my case!!

Are you contending that people in the ministry "don't work".

Here is the first lesson my Pastor taught me in Bible School .. HOW DO YOU SPELL MINISTRY .. W O R K

It bothers me that people are so trigger happy over the word "televangelist". I mean .. you'd think people had been bilked out of thousands of dollars or something the way they go on and on.

And .. what are people doing sitting home watching this garbage when they should be joined to a church and helping their Pastor DO THE WORK OF THE MINISTRY.

Okay .. I'm done! This is a pointless argument. You hate the Copelands and anybody else on TV - whoopie! I'm sure God has fallen off His throne by now.
