Indeed.
Years ago I was chatting with a law student who was interning with the L.A. County DA's office. He was working on gang cases, one of which involved a gang banger who had been shot multiple times in the face with a 9mm handgun and lived.

"The vehicle owner somehow has access to a gun and shot the person in the head," she said. The car owner then managed to get out of his vehicle while the wounded man continued driving. As he drove on South Havana Street, the man crashed into another car at East Kentucky Avenue. Five people riding in that vehicle suffered minor injuries. After the collision, the suspect fled on foot and was captured after a police dog found him in the back of a Budget Rental Car business in the 600 block of South Havana Street. What the hell was he shot in the head with? a bb gun?

The vehicle owner should have turned off the ignition, grab the wheel and hit the brakes instead of abandoning the vehicle, and letting it go on to crash into another one with 5 people inside.

It could happen with nearly *any* handgun. The human skull can be very tough. There have been instances of .45 ACP bullets penetrating the skin at an angle, staying outside of the skull, then coming out the skin some number of inches from the entry point. You see an entrance hole, an exit hole, and assume that the shot went through the head, but it never penetrated the skull. It usually happens when the bullet impacts the skull at an oblique angle.

A. must NOT have been a very large caliber weapon....
B. Why did the owner run off...???
If it was MY car and I had gotten to that point,
I believe I'd have been holding the gun to the guy's temple and inquiring as to whether or not he'd like a SECOND dose....!!!

Yeah... we have CCW here in Colorado. Some perps are just too stupid to care.

The condition of the suspect is unknown. Maybe his condition was a hole in the head! :-)
