Tyler was also a child actor (Dickie Tyler) making his debut on stage in The Intruder as a goosestepping Nazi 13 year-old that sent chills through the audience (1943-44). He was an understudy to Skip Homeier, the lead in New York and he later took on the leading role in its presentation in Chicago and Los Angeles. The Intruder was later made into a movie called Tomorrow the World, starring Homeier in the leading role.

He has quite a resume, playing in Gomer Pyle, Petticoat Junction, and other notables. ;-)
