Gun Enthusiasts Mobilize in Blogosphere in New Era For Grassroots

A massive and seemingly mobilized online community has sprung among gun rights advocates readying for any possible action by the Democratic-led Congress to limit an individual's right to bear arms.

While activity on gun issues has been light in recent years — no Million Mom march or action to renew the assault weapons ban that expired two years ago — an explosion of activity among Web loggers shows Second Amendment purists are anything but complacent with the new majority.

"Blogging is sort of like a gun store, you get a whole bunch of guys around the store, really just to talk," said Gunner Miller, who runs the No Quarters Web site. "It has a swarm effect — if we see a problem, we all start swarming on it."

Nobody knows that better than Jim Zumbo, a well-known outdoorsman with a 40-year relationship with the National Rifle Association. Zumbo recently lost his weekly television program on the Outdoor Channel, his decades-long gig as hunting editor for the magazine Outdoor Life and many of his big-name sponsors, including Remington Arms Co., for which he was a spokesman, in a matter of days over comments he made on his personal blog about so-called assault weapons.

"While activity on gun issues has been light in recent years..."

Waht rock has this guy been hiding under?

What does he call the explosion of "Shall issue" and Castle Doctrine" legislation throughout the country if not "activity?"
How about the recent Federal Appeals Court's slap in the face to Washington DC?

We've been doing our "activity" the old-fashioned way: by getting people elected who'll carry our issues to the State Houses and to Washington

Yep, here in Minnesota, we went through shall issue in '03 and again in '05. We're currently trying to improve our castle doctrine statute to be more like a stand-your-ground type of law AND attempting to pass an ammendment to the state constitution to include words like "Shall Not Be Infringed".

Light, my eye....

Good for you!
Here in Texas, we've got the right to use lethal force to stop violence to others, to prevent a car theft, or theft of the neighor's dog!
But we have a "duty to retreat" in our own homes.

That law's being changed this session of the legislature, or we'll elect a new batch of folks next round!

We gave Zumbo hell here at FR. Hope we contributed to the loss of his contracts!

"But we have a "duty to retreat" in our own homes."

In Michigan we just passed a stand your ground law that extends the "In your home" to include anywhere on your property!

We get to whack em and stack em in the front yard!

Zumbo was the worst kind of arrogant dipweed, just as bad as that numbnuts who runs American Handgunner, a magazine that would be fine but for their embarrassing shilling for Smith & Worsen.

Thats the truth. I love my local shop, There is alway coffee on and there is a place to play checkers and a place to shoot. People are always just hanging out discussing the issues. There are plenty of sales too ;0)
