Yeah, in spite of my family experiences with colon cancer, I did not understand much about it. Finally, my doctor and my wife persuaded [forced?] me to get a colonoscopy. Good thing as they found a couple of polyps. After, improving my exercise and diet [I now love fiber] I was able to go from a three year schedule to a five year. Early detection is a big key with colon cancer as it is with several of the other cancers. Get checked thoroughly and often.
Wait, didn't I just say this was a family Thread? Sorry! 8)

Glad to see you did the right thing. Just for your info I have always been a Vegetable freak, the more fiber the better, and it did not prevent me from getting it. There are studies that indicate a lack of Calcium in your diet as strong implications as being the Culprit. I supplement big time with Calcium now, but I did not until around 8 years ago, and I am allergic to dairy so I did not get the amounts necessary. I think Tony has given us all food for thought for today. Low Fat, High Fiber and Calcium, plus Colonoscopies when Doctor feels they are necessary.
