This is why Iran took the UK Sailor hostage today. Our enemies do not fear us because of the left.

The left has spent the past five years twisting history to fit their agenda never caring that we did not go to war with Saddam because of WMD's, we went because after 9/11 we decided we could no longer allow our enemies to not fear us. Saddam stood in defiance to the will of the Free World and his defiance in the face of our military might was a rallying point for the radical Muslims.

Now we have AQ who believes so long as they hold on and kill as many people as possible the Free World will retreat and we have a nut in Iran who believes that if we don't have the will to stand up to a bunch terrorists, we certainly do not have the will to stand up against him and his military.

"The left has spent the past five years twisting history to fit their agenda never caring that we did not go to war with Saddam because of WMD's,..."

You make a crucial point that needs to be stated again and again. We were attacked, not just on 9/11, but multiple times over more than a decade. War was declared upon us way before we ever recognized it officially. Many, if not most of the US population still doesn't fully acknowlege that war was declared on us.

Saddam Hussein was giving 10-15K to the families of suicide bombers, well before we decided to go into Iraq. There are Iraqi connections to the first World Trade Center bombing, and Iraq had made itself a safe haven for people like Abu Nidal. Saddam had nuclear and biological weapons programs at the time of the first Gulf War, thumbed his nose at us enough such that even Clinton lobed bombs at Iraq periodically, and he kicked the inspectors out of Iraq during the Clinton administration. These are not the acts of a trustworthy leader, especially in a post-9/11 world. We had little choice.

If we had stopped in Afghanistan all of the resources of Al Queda, the Taliban, and like fanatics would be concentrated on Afghanistan. All the roadside bombs, all the suicide bombings, etc., would be occurring in Afghanistan, and Iraq would undoubtedly be one of the staging areas.

Our current issues are not just the work of the democrat party leaders. Many in our country are complicit. My son's future is being put at risk, along with the children of all of us, because of a group of self-righteous ill-informed people. The 'soccer moms' of the country need to think long and hard about what the implications of their positions will be for their children. Freedom is not free. We need to defend ourselves. Period.

Can't blame the media for that one, though, since--much to my great annoyance--Bush has never been willing to explain the real reasons we had to act.

The die was cast when we gave Saddam a cease-fire agreement to sign. Once we did that, we were bound to either enforce it or forfeit the ability to enforce anything. President Bush decided--quite rightly--the latter option was unacceptable, so that left no choice but the former.
