If this was in Iraqi waters, then this is an act of war.

I recommend this: for every British man held by the Iranians...one oil well destroyed per hour. That's 15 oil wells destroyed per hour. Hit them where it hurts--the pocket book.

Of course after the British are released, the entire Iranian Navy should be destroyed, just for good measure.

Won't happen. We did not arrest the two Japanese envoys when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. These two diplomats were sitting in the Secretary of State's office while the attack was going on I believe.

I've been following your back and forth. I think you're right.

Islammemo now has this story. They say that "a number of British troops and Iraqi soldiers" were detained.

LOL! They will find something to intimidate. Perhaps a flock of dangerous seagulls.

It just isn't going to happen. A U.S Navy Commander has just stated that Coalition forces showed prudent and proper restraint in not escalating the incident.

It's not the British who captured Iranian soldiers wandering in British waters, it's British soldiers who wandered (for whatever purpose we still don't know. Maybe spying?) in Iranian territorial integrity.

Maybe they got lost... What do you know?

"He's a Sunni, isn't he? MIGHT be a reprisal by Sadr. MAYBE.

Yes, he's a Sunni.

What I don't understand is: if the shiite are on America's side, why would they attempt an assassination on a deputy PM - that is someone who is part of the government?

"What's the real story about your boycott of Bank of America?

They're, BoA, are issuing credit cards to illegal aliens. Do you see the ramifications of such issuance there?

"A U.S. Navy spokesman has just said on TV that the Coalition forces showed proper and prudent restraint by not escalating the incident into a shooting match."

Ten bucks says the language aboard was anything but.

I disagree with you. I don't think much will happen.
Guess we will see however.

I'll second you one that one. But you REALLY ought to take "3rd World" out of your tagline. We don't want them to issue credit to ANY illegals, right?

You may be correct, but this is not the first time that Iran has pulled this crap, and I think patience is wearing very thin.

What happens, will be the result of what Iran does with this, and if they back out, like they went in, there will be nothing more than a diplomatic mistake.

If they hunker down and demand reparations for the 15 Brits, the die will be cast for further moves on our part, that cannot be put back into the can.

"These two diplomats were sitting in the Secretary of State's office while the attack was going on I believe."

I didn't say it WOULD happen. But it WOULD be legal, and lotsa people from all over lurk on this forum.

Anyhow, you're right, IIRC. They were in Washington at meetings, I know that.

Speaking of the Secretary of State and WWII....AND FOR YOU TRIVIA FANS OUT THERE, what did the Secretary of State accuse the new office of Naval Intelligence of doing ILLEGALLY to Japanese "diplomats" contacting their home country from US soil??

(It's relevant to the thread and especially the WOT)

"I don't think much will happen.

So do I.

Such maritime incidents are frequent.

If they were all to escalate into a war the entire world would be at war with each other.

It's not like that. We've got both Sunni AND Shia on our side. The yearning for freedom doesn't know race, creed or gender.

At the same time, we've got revenge attacks by Iraqi Shia on Sunni, which were the ruling party under Saddam and the ever present Shia Iran continuously trying to take over Iraq, formerly controlled by Sunni Arabs, but now ANY Iraqi not on Iran's side is a target. THEN you have Sunni al Qaeda. THEN you have all those other blood clubs, like Hizbollah. All those groups are out for themselves. THEIR shared objective is the same: destroy Iraq's fledgeling democracy and achieve victory and dominion over the Great Satan and push Israel into the sea. With or without a new caliph depending on ideology.

They are not really powerless to do anything. They have enough air and naval assets to put a stop to this piracy. Having met many former British soldiers there is nothing pansey about them they would be willing to make an example out of these sheet heads.

The problem lies on the floors of Parliment as ours does in the floors of the House and Senate.
