JEFFERSON CITY A dire, apocalyptic prophecy in the Bible's Book of Revelation is getting a new audience: state legislators.
Several evangelical Christian groups say the federal Real ID Act, which will standardize state drivers licenses and link them to corresponding national ID numbers by 2009, represents the "mark of the beast," the devilish number 666 that is attached to the godless.
The nearly 2,000-year-old passage is referenced along with the prophetic locusts, plagues, oceans of blood and rivers of fire found in the Bible. Soon after, according to scripture, the antichrist takes control of the world and Jesus Christ returns.
In short, new national ID numbers could spell the beginning of the end, some Christians believe. Advertisement
"This is getting treacherously close to prophecy in the scripture," said Irvin Baxter Jr., founder and president of Endtime Ministries in Dallas.
And some Missouri legislators are listening.
Some Christians interpret verses from the book of Revelation that say humans will be "marked
so that no one can buy or sell who does not have that mark" as a prophecy of a global numerical control system to be used by the beast, or antichrist. The number would be used during the Great Tribulation, which some Christians believe will precede the second coming of Jesus.

This act does no more than take some power away from the States..
Why can't these people just go to The Home...
My BlackBerry failed to recognize the new Daylight Savings Time, so I guess the beast is not in total control yet.
"Can you see the rest of the world, especially Europe, having IDs following our example? No way! If there is to be a mark of the beast it will not be anything the U.S.
initiates".
Investigate the technology and see where it came from = Europe
yes, my sprint didn't either until i turned it off and back on...
But---our smart set alarm clocks were suppose to change too, and didn't.
"My personal opinion is it can't happen until there is no more paper money,ect...Seems a logical first step.."
That's the point of this...no currency required
"This act does no more than take some power away from the States.."
How so? Please tell.
By replacing State issued ID..
yeah, but what does http =?
If we are seeing the groundwork laid so that a literal interpretation of the Book of Revelation could be fulfilled, then there will be no stopping it, for as God speaks - so it shall be.
If we are not seeing that, or if the Book is to taken 'symbolically', then it doesn't matter as 'symbolically' all the events in Revelation are already happening on a daily basis. So life as we know it will not change.
In either case our work is clear. Preach the Gospel to the ends of the earth, make disciples of all men and Baptize them into Christ, and continue to allow Christ, who dwells in us, to shape us into His image.
The next logical step is to have it implanted in the hand or the forehead.

500 hospitals already Verimed hopes by end of year it will have over 800 hospitals in the network.
It's already happening across the globe and the people are lining up like lemmings.
Second of all, it's obvious from context in Revelation that "bearing the mark of the Beast" means to worship the Antichrist as God: those who worship God have His mark upon them, those who side with Evil bear its mark. This harks back to the Roman emperor Nero, who lived in St John's day. Nero had himself declared the Supreme Being and required all inhabitants of Rome to demonstrate their worship of him by burning a pinch of incense before his idol. Rome's Christians, of couse, refused to do this, and were martyred as a result. Likewise, St John is pointing out that in the final days the forces of Evil will concoct some sort of deified man (or men, or system of men) that will proclaim himself/itself to be the Supreme Being, and will require all to worship him/it as a mark of loyalty. This is the final Antichrist. Then as now, the worship of any being other than God will remain one thing a Christian can never do. Martyrdom will follow.
(NB: In Greek numerology, Emperor Nero's name [NRONKSR] sums up to 666. He was one of the original antichrists.)
But a driver's license? Please. God is not going to refuse you access to Heaven for having valid Texas ID. I wouldn't let anyone chip me or mine, but that's because such a method of identification reduces a human being to the status of property, not because I think it's the dreaded Mark 666.
Bottom line: Jesus saved us all by His Passion and Ressurrection. Therefore, the only thing that can keep a person from going to Heaven through Him is that person's voluntary and conscious rejection of Jesus Christ not just in words, but by one's whole being. That is the unforgivable sin to be presented with Jesus as King and to willfully say "No, I will not serve." Short of that, all the chip implants and ID cards in the world aren't going to land anyone in Hell.

Close enough for me! I try to avoid that whole http/www thingy, but my browser keeps throwing it in there.
Very interesting. 37 pages long interesting.
A Christian will know and refuse when the mark of the beast is offered and you're right, this aint it. Ah, but three years from now when we need a mark access the new hillary-care.....
