Former sailor in NY Times cover story claims she was repeatedly raped and suffered combat injuries in Iraq. Problem: she never served in Iraq, never reported a rape or injury, and at the time she left the Navy after six years she was still a BUSN (E-3).

"Yeah, everybody knows the Air Farce is not the real military...."
Hey... you guys left out the Chair Force comments! LOL!
Anyway, I made acquaintance with quite a few Army types who once had that opinion too. They had spent a couple of days bouncing between the ground and 12 inches off the ground while the Air Farce ran bombs around their fire base to keep the enemy off of them. Seems that no one else could get there.
There are those rare occasions when nothing else will do!
Cordially,
GE
Sorry, I just couldn't let it alone...

Well - judging that book by it's cover - I'd say she's a problem waiting to happen.

I think she thinks she was in Iraq, he said. I dont think she was trying to pull the wool over our eyes. LOL! Think maybe she put one by the NY Times' writers? Oh man this is the worst case of CYA I've ever seen!

It's not an issue of being needed. It's an issue of the nature of the job. Most AF jobs are like a civilian's job. 8 hours, go home. The quality of life is so good in the AF that the turnover is small, lots of lifers.
There's no denying that. Army/Navy/Marines all have aspects to the job that makes it suck. A lot more than the AF.

This is off topic, but when I was a "two year man" in the USMC, 1966-68, there were some serious shortages in some MOS's....one of my pals, also a two year man, was a logistics guy, and he actually got promoted to Staff Sergeant E-6 about 18 months into his stint.
He hated it, because he had to move into Staff NCO quarters and bunk with all the Lifers.

No doubt about that at all!
I didn't intend to "start" anything - all good natured.
One of my friends I have been working with for years was in the Marines. I work with two others from the Navy and several Army guys. We've all been out 20 years or more and the bantering still goes on. Just in fun my FRiend, just in fun.

Staff Sergeant E-6 about 18 months
WOW! Let's see... In the AF, Basic as E1, about a year E2, E3 in about another year. E4 will take another 18 months. E5 at around 4 years in, usually just after reenlistment. E6 in another 24-36 months in. E7 MAYBE around 9 - 10 years in - maybe. Lots of folks retire at 20 years at E7.
This would be someone who really stood out in the crowd!

"Just in fun my FRiend, just in fun."
No offense taken. Being as I was a 4 and out type, I don't have the same kind of allegience that some feel to their branch of service.
I was just being clear. :)

When I was Line Division Officer in my first squadron, I heard a confrontation between an ABH2 and my shop chief, an ABHC:
E-5: "I made E-5 faster than you!"
Chief: "Yeah! And you've been one more times than me, too!"

Waaaay back in "the old Navy", (not to be confused with the clothing store) I sewed on my 2nd class crow 2-1/2 yrs into my enlistment and was recommended to take the E-6 exam but I got out when I completed my 4 years.

She just looks like a mean, nasty person. I'd hate to be stuck on a ship with her.
