PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. -- A machete-wielding man chased off three young men from a wooded lot near his house Thursday, trapping one of them up a tree before sheriffs deputies arrived.
Luke Weinstein said he stepped outside his house on Kings Highway to have his first cigarette of the day when he spotted the men lurking in the shrubs of a vacant lot across the street. He yelled at them and started after them, then ran back into his garage to grab his machete.
Wearing nothing but a pair of black shorts, a barefooted Weinstein chased the trio into a wooded lot two doors down from his own house.
Two got away, but one young man climbed into a pine tree, where Weinstein trapped him until a deputy arrived.
The deputy showed up at the wrong house, Weinstein said. While he tried to get the deputys attention, the youth climbed out of the tree and ran off.
The sheriffs office is reporting it as a suspicious incident.
If people get sick and not go to the doctor, they certainly wouldn't go to the cops when they needed to....
I'm not sure where you live but around where I live if you yell at someone, that IS confronting them.
And if you confront three to your one you better have something on your side.
Should he have just called the police and kept an eye on them? Maybe.
A lot of people are getting tired of calling the police, being told it's not an emergency situation, and that an officer will be there in a couple of hours. They are starting to take back their individual neighborhoods themselves.
Will some of them get into legal trouble? Surely.
Will some of them get hurt, or killed, by the people they confront? Probably.
Will the unacceptable element stop coming to their neighborhood? Likely.
Pinging the undisputed Princess of Edged Weapons!
Only if they have sawed off barrels and pistol grips.
