Shame on Germany.

If I were the parents I'd send them to public school so I could get my kids back and then I'd take a holiday outside of Germany and never return.

It seems to me that they would qualify for refugee status if they came to the US under these circumstances.

I'd do anything I could to help them in that action.

Emigrating is not a crime. In fact, many homeschoolers do just that - Austria is a preferred place, because of the same language, the right to settle down there and work (thanks to the EU!) and Austria has no obligation to attend a private or public school.
